Yeah. I don't think most disagree but I think what he's saying is there may be more to this than we all realize . After rereading his post you're right he did say that . There is an argument to be made about them not moving though i think they may have been close. The cable deal and just Bettman not letting it happen are viable arguments saying they weren't going anywhere. Not that I agree with it but they are debatable. Look what Bettman did with the Coyotes as an example. The fight to keep that team in place is unreal. That's a team whose attendence is deplorable and has zero history.

Understood but it was clear wang was not keeping them at the coli one day longer then they had to. Which brings me back to where else would they play? I'm glad it didn't come to that but like I said they were gone if BK didn't become an option

Since the coliseum was approved yesterday, my guess is they would be there.

I don't think that is 100% true.

What were the other options in NY?

I hate to say this but they were gone if BK didn't step up.

- Vukota

I don't believe for a second they were going to leave NY with that cable contract. Sure they could have gone elsewhere and turned a profit for the first time in ages from their operations, but the possiblity of finding a suitor within the next decade with the inflating cable revenue would have been far too good to pass up. What Barclay's did was allow Charles to stop waiting on Nassau County. I'm pretty confident that if Barclays didn't emerge as an option, Wang would have continued to consider his local options over the next few years while working out an arbitrary type extension to allow the Isles more time to find a suitable home. I think the politicians functioned as they do with everything, wait until the eleventh hour and then act. In this case, Wang found another option in the 9th hour and pulled out early, leaving the politicians with egg on their face.

In short, I don't blame Charles for getting out of what had become a political pawn game and heading for the bright lights and big money of Brooklyn, but if the lease is rock solid, I think it's a mistake to commit to a flawed venue for that length of time.

So they would have stayed and gotten a smaller arena and made even less money?

You could very well be right and I lean toward ageeing with you but they were in a standoff. Wang has said lots of shat and not followed through with it. If BK didn't exist would Wang just stop having his team play games? They would've just moved? This is where I have a hard time believing it. After watching the Coyotes debacle it's hard for me to wrap my head completely around that thought. How could Bettman justify moving a team with our history and fanbase(whether some believe it or not it's extensive)?
Not saying there were other options besides Brooklyn but what I'm saying is none of us truly know? I still believe all of this was leverage from both sides and we lost, to an extent...

Urgh, they tried to down play that. He looked good in that last game that was streamed.

If they didn't have a deal in place the coliseum deal would have been designed to allow more seating. Maybe MSG would have won.

At the end of the day, do we really think Wang would have moved them to KC . They would be In NY one way or another

See this is where I'm wondering if that's going to change . The seating that is. If the number of seats in that arena is incresed before construction I want a personal apology from Vukota

It's only smaller because the Islanders are now moving. As I said prior, it's funny how politicians always find a way to get things done at the eleventh hour. What they didn't expect was that Charles was going to leave before that eleventh hour. I still have a feeling that Wang and Ratner may have a better plan down the road. If the Isles were to become an NHL powerhouse and sustain their success, they're losing 5000 seats worth of revenue per night...at $40-100 that's in the neighborhood of $400K Per game in potential sales (based on $80). Over a season that's over $16 million per season in lost potential sales. I can't believe they'd accept that over a 25 year period. I think both Charles and Ratner have bigger plans but this allowed them time while also taking every bit of leverage from Nassau.

I hope so but you're forgetting about the luxury boxes which more then makes up for the loss of seats
