What are you basing this on? Is it speculation or from something more tangible? I've never been inside, but I find it hard to believe that a $1B facility was created with 20% or more of its seats being obstructed view. Maybe it depends upon the definition of "obstructed"? If you can't see a sliver of the ice in the corner, but can see 90% of the ice surface, is that still "obstructed"?

I know people will say "it was designed for basketball", but it was also designed for other events, like concerts, and boxing, etc. Basketball was its primary consideration during design, not its only consideration.

No, you can't see the goal . Check out this article.

When 1/4 of the building is unsuitable for hockey and viewing, I think it causes a big issue. That's my main point. The arena isn't built to hold an NHL team. I'll still go to games but not nearly as many as I do now. That doesn't mean I won't care nearly as much.
- Isles316

Not to be a di*k, but where is the 1/4 number coming from?

From that article it sounds as if all the seats on the north, south and east sides of the building have fine sightlines and hundreds of seats on the west end are being sold for $20 and have an obstructed view of half the near zone, from the end boards to the face off dots. Sound about right?

Those west end seats may be obstructed, but at least youre watching the team from there playing in brooklyn as opposed to KC or Seattle

I completely agree yes. I'd be much happier if the Barclays was fully functional for NHL hockey. But it isn't as we can all tell

this might be a better image of the seats that are obstructed:

looks like 4 sections, but there's a clear warning and the tickets are very cheap.

So then it turns a 15,800 seat stadium into a 13,000 seat arena. And if corporations are buying out these good seats, leaves little for the fans to purchase

i think the old saying of "beggers can't be choosers" goes into effect here. you guys have a brand new arena after being desperate to find one. it caused multiple free agents to not even think about signing here because you guys were at risk to relocate any year. yea you might not be able to see the whole ice in those 4 sections, but i'm sure people who can't afford to go to games won't mind the obstruction for tickets that are a lot cheaper.

just live with it and if it's that big of a deal to you, then just watch the game on TV or buy tickets in a different section.

i mean seriously you guys have a BRAND NEW ARENA and some people are acting like it's the worst thing to ever happen to the franchise. isn't the issue temporary too?

No it's permanent. And a brand new arena that's not viable for NHL hockey. Gary Bettman said this two years ago on WFAN but now all of a sudden it's ok ?

It's not 4 sections. They've decided to sell all those seats that are gray, even the ones that don't have a section number in that picture. So , about 1/4 of the building has seats that aren't functional

I'm not crying about it. As I said I'm thankful they didn't leave all together. But, isles fans shouldn't have to adapt. The reason they are leaving is that the Nassau politicians (frank)ed it up for all of us.

My main point is that I don't think it's going to be a lock that Brooklyn is better. If the majority of people that go to a lot of games feel the way I do, then where are the fans going to show up from ?

Again, I'm not "crying." I'm just saying how it is and how it is sucks for most fans that go to a lot of games.

I've been to about 8 Yankee games in my life and I'm a mets fan and go anywhere from 2-5 games a year for similar reasons. It's farther out and my work schedule doesn't allow me to go to more in the summer.

Unfortunately giving your opinion on Brooklyn is sometimes misconstrued by some as being crying or whining.

there are 2.5 million people that live in Brooklyn. if 2.5 percent support them that's 60k or so new fans. by know means am I attacking you but it seems that a majority of long island is forgetting that the islanders are actually moving to a place that is inhabited by humans

That's only 4 sections.... not even close to being 1/4th of the seating.. its 1/4th of the ARENA.. but only 4 sections are in it.

I dont think there are 3000 obstructed view seats. The Barclays center was awesome, and i've been to prob 11 other arenas in the NHL. People will b!tch and moan all they want, but the fact is I didnt see a single face i recognized from the coliseum. I walked around almost the entire arena, and usually you see faces you recognize, or even jerseys. I didnt see a single one. The move to brooklyn will bring new fans, its just that simple. For all the fans that dont like the move, they can still see the isles at the coliseum for 6 games a year ( i think thats what i read)

Initially I was perturbed by the set up of the arena, but my obstructed view wasn't so bad. I could live with that seat IF I take the plunge on season tickets there.

The question is if will the price be worth it? My current disdain for the Rangers organization comes from how I felt priced out of the market (tix went from $23/gm to $63/gm over 10 years). The Islanders were part of my back-up plan because the (non-season) tickets were affordable, but new arenas mean the cost gets jacked up. So while I get another NHL team a bit closer to home, I have the feeling that it will be the Rangers all over again.

The only thing I truly like about this idea is an AHL going in Nassau (supposedly), but knowing my luck the ticket prices for that might be jacked up too.
