I mean hell... we only have 4 NHL D-men anyway... why waste those other 3 spots on substandard players... create a whole other offensive line!!

Hes a UFA next year. I really wish Garth went hard after a goalie, I still think Schnieder should have and could have been ours if Snow was bit more aggressive . - mighty13duck
Nino & #15 overall in this past draft (Pulock) would have probably (I'm guessing) been what it would have taken to get Schneider. That's a lot to give up, but for a #1 goaltender just entering his prime it would have been a no-brainer for me. |

Was that the offer? And it was rejected? I would have thought that would have beaten #9 overall as compensation, but then again I know VAN had a hard-on for Bo Horvat and he wasn't falling to #15. |

Van also didn't want to take on Nino's Salary

Having talked this over with some friends years back when Barclays was being built, it's astonishing to me that the possibility of an Islanders move wasn't accounted for before they built the building.
For me personally, it's great. I live in the Bronx and can get there easily on the train. I will undoubtedly catch Isles-Devils games with more of a frequency.
I can understand the disappointment of Islanders fans though. The Coliseum has great sightlines. It's just an older building without much in the way of amenities or modern comforts. But if you can see the game just fine for some of us that's all that matters. I don't realistically know how much in the ways of improvements they can make to the Barclays Center for hockey. The seats are already right on top of the basketball court. It's not a big building to begin with. That limits your options for renovation on a smaller scale. |

Unless Vancouver wanted Horvat specifically and didn't think they could get him by sliding down 6 more spots. Being a unique type of player in terms of defense and faceoffs, it's arguable that's exactly what they wanted. Plus Vancouver has a crying need for a third-line center who can move up to top 6 if something happens to Kessler. Just saying. 15 and Nino compared to 9 overall is fair if 9 overall was what Vancouver was willing to accept in the first place (still surprised but that's another story). Not arguing the fairness issue, just that Horvat was likely exactly what Vancouver wanted. That was their primary need point blank and they filled it. Whether it comes to fruition this year or down the road, I'd bet Horvat was their guy. |
