I hope so but you're forgetting about the luxury boxes which more then makes up for the loss of seats - Vukota
They could have had the luxury boxes and the seats....this is an NBA arena, plain and simple. While the boxes may be attractive to ownership they suck for the fans, not that it would matter to anyone but the fans themselves.
IMO the NHL would never have let a team leave NY no matter what the circumstances. The league NEEDS that exposure. They're praying for a second marketing machine to rise there. KC offered nothing in that way. They're already learning that places like Columbus are doing poorly. Just like the Jets and Mets, the potential is far too great to give the team away to a small-medium market.

They may? Do any of us really know the financial breakdown of it? - Cptmjl
I would think luxury boxes is where they make a ton of money. Costs a couple of thousand a game to lease one of them out |

I don't think anybody is disputing that. Again probably not but it was no slam dunk they weren't leaving is all I'm saying. They are staying and that is all I care about |

It does but the actual breakdown of it is what I'm saying. The loss of seats and their revenue to actual revenue coming from the luxury boxes. |

I know the ones in Philly hold 14 seats. Seats are $180 ea. Of course there are 'luxury', 'Club' & 'balcony'. So that comes to just under $2k, of course then you add in catering etc....
Xxkeaner17xX
Edit: Just to add, the boxes are large enough that about 30 seats could have fit there so you figure the gains are more in the catering, things like that. I don't think the amount is stagering, but they tend to get rented pretty consistently. |

Funny thing is even with a new arena on the Island I think they make much more money in BK then if they stayed on the Island. For the fans on the Island the move sucks but for the franchise its a great move |

Agreed, which I think is why Wang took the deal. I'm just curious to know the terms of the lease given the POTENTIAL revenue they are forgoing to lock up for 25 years. I've heard that the lease is with Ratner and NOT just Barclay center, meaning that if Ratner were to expand elsewhere, he could take Charles and the gang with him.

Considering how many games they draw under 10,000 at NVMC, I wouldn't be surprised if they add more than the 6 planned games to the New NVMC scheduled.
This is the age of cable TV, so 10,000 fans in a small arena still provides a loud "studio audience" for the cable broadcast. Also Wang will be providing games over the net as well, so both Brooklyn and Nassau will work out. For a playoff format they can also provide a venue at NVMC for a big screen cable feed audience from the Brooklyn game or a road game. |
