Regardless, 2 pts up on 8th and Detroit coming in.

Detroit actually doesn't scare most Leaf fans.

Add 2pts to 8th place nyi and the leafs are still ahead. 2 math fails in a row.

It's a tiebreaker fail. Math is sound.

Iwould say there are about 4 teams in the NHL this year that are a lock for the playoffs... even then a freak injury to an important player and even one of those teams could get knocked out
- jribout

Yeah just like Pittsburgh and Crosby or Ottawa an Karlsson/Spezza/Anderson!?!

You guys have convinced me that the Leafs are a lock. I'll check back during the season.

What players are you talking about here?

The bottom line is that NJ had a magical run to the Finals and Lou should have been smart enough to know that he was NEVER going to be drafting that low again. It was a terrible blunder on his part.

- djamon

Okay, let me take this slow. An 18 year old drafted in 2009 is now 22. An 18 year old drafted in 2011 is now 20. Do you see the difference?

He wanted to have a player that was ready to possibly join the team rather than drafting an 18 year old who would still be developing for a few years

I was thinking Pittsburgh and Boston would have to have a lot go wrong to miss the playoffs because of their depth......

LA and Chicago in the west but if quick gets hurt and they need to rely on scrivens the could be in trouble....

Don't be so dramatic.

This assumption that the Eastern Conference has added a playoff lock in the Wings is ridiculous. That's all. They got in last year in the last week of the season.

Right so they weren't 2pts out of missing the playoffs... fail.... they weren't 2pts out of 8th because the Isles needed 3 pts to pass the Leafs.

So yeah, both statements were wrong.

Detroit is running on reputation. Their prospects are horrifically overrated, and their current team is not good. I don't care how good they use to be. They're peaked.

They're trending down. One year after Lidstrom leaves and they're in a dog-fight to even make the Playoffs. It ain't getting easier this year.

I believe good teams always find a way to win. That's why depth is so important during a 82 games schedule.

I said they made it by 2 pts. I was wrong, but they did only beat 8th by 2pts you complete failure. If it was 3 then they would have been behind them.

That is thick, even for you.

Oh I get it.... much better to have a 22 year old carter ashton than an 18 year old Morgan Rielly or Brayden Schenn..... maybe instead of taking it slow you should get up to speed with how many 29th overall picks actually become top line players in the nhl

LA made the playoffs by 4 points.... A large part of that thanks to Bernier shining while Quick struggled to find his game.... If quick misses a big part of the season they do not have depth in that position and could conceivably struggle to make the playoffs..... but they do have depth everywhere else....

That's retarded. Did you make that sh!t up, or did poor Lou actually say it?

Me? I'd rather have the 20 year old drafted in the top 10 than a 22 year old drafted at #29. Call me crazy!

Once again, we had just been to the finals. This was under the assumption that we wouldn't be drafting 9th overall
