folding? you need to get your facts straight. There was, at no time, ever, a situation the Isles were going to fold.

and ps:

John Tavares first 2 years:

2009-10 New York Islanders NHL 82 24 30 54 22 -14 -- -- -- -- --
2010-11 New York Islanders NHL 79 29 38 67 53 -16 -- -- -- -- --

RNH
2011-12 Edmonton Oilers NHL 62 18 34 52 16 -2 -- -- -- -- --
2012-13 Oklahoma City Barons AHL 19 8 12 20 6 7 -- -- -- -- --
2012-13 Edmonton Oilers NHL 40 4 20 24 8 3 -- -- -- -- --

then consider linemates.

RNH makes MORE than Tavares.

If RNH is nominated for the Hart in 2 years you can compare them. This is way too much money for a guy who hasn't proven himself yet.

Hall, sure, he deserves it. Eberle as well. RNH? Good player, need more history to work from. A 2 year deal at 4 per would have been a lot more reasonable

- Isles_since_6

Then he'll want 7-7.5 in two years time... I'd rather spread the cap out evenly over a longer duration. Better cap management.

he'll be really overpaid next year, but contracts like these are probably the only way the oilers could keep all these guys together 5 years from now. I'd say the rewards outweigh the risks. Still, every once in a while a deal like this goes way sour, at least it's 7 years not 15

Tavares = Overrated... Very good, but very overrated.

Tavares after 3 years = No better than Hall after 3 years
Tavares after 2 years = No better than RNH after 2 years
Tavarers after 1 year = No better than Yakupov after 1 year

It's what they should be earning,I doubt Dubnyk and Petry can make a case to earn 4-5 millions on long term deals.
- Alexzanki

Your an idiot Petry and dubnyk could easily make that an with the cap going up 2 about 80 million it will be afordable

They literally have the same ppg over their first 2 seasons.

I dont know what's so difficult to understand about this

- hugefemale dog77

do you want the guy who scored 24 and 29 goals the first two years playing with castoffs, or the guy who scored 18 goals and 4 goals player with 1st overall draft picks?

Oh (frank) off. You were #1 fan predicted breakout years and becoming one of the new top players in the game.

Which you were right about, but now you are calling him overrated?

(frank)ing laughs.

Right.....Yak is capped. He's a Russian kid who is a real threat to bolt if he doesn't get what he feels he deserves. Also, pretty hard to cap the kid if he turns out to be the best of the bunch.

Edit:The nhl would fold their teams if the cap went up to 80 million and no sadly I don't think Duby can take the Oilers to the promis land same for Pettry he's still got alot to prove

I think you're overrating RNH on this one. Its fairly safe to say that RNH is going to be unreal in the very near future but JT didn't get nominated for the Hart for no reason
- Smokes

Maybe give RNH 4 years in the NHL and see what happens?

P.S. East coast bias.

P.P.S. He's overrated. I'm not saying RNH = Tavares of today... I'm saying that at similar points in their careers, they were basically even.

He's probably a 4mil player going into this year. How much is the guy really going to be overpaid when his contract kicks in?

So you're allowed to round up with RNH, but if I do it then I get called out?

RNH second season: 40 games. 4 goals, 20 assists.
Tavares second season: 79 games. 29 goals, 38 assists.

Ya, you're right. Same thing.

- iknowbest

Shoulder injury may have something to do with that. RNH suffered that in junior, and finally has it repaired. He ready for him to rip the NHL a new asshole.

JT does it alone though, if the best option RNH had to feed the puck to was Moulson he may have had only 4 assists to match his 4 goals. JT is a beast!

Not that their opinion is the be all end all, but the TSN panel doesn't like the contract either. Video is on the TSN main page.

Yeah he plays in the east, same reason RNH dosent get the Calder, or yak dosent get the calder, or how the lady bing is giving to a Dmen, when that never happens. Ebs gets snubbed for that. The Oilers play up in north in the far west where no one cares. Only way that changes is when these kids live up to the hype otherwise it never will.
- FiretheGM

Yup, if the Oilers were located in NY, do people honestly think Yak wouldn't have been nominated

The east coast bias is real.

because the Isles don't have much cap room this year and the cap is going up? rofl. New building, best tv contract, our only problem at this point is that our owner is a wingnut.

Look - I love the Oilers young talent. I do, I'm not saying RNH is a bad player, overrated player or won't be a good player. I disagree with the length and the amount of the contract - at this time. I believe they could have signed him during the season to this deal if he showed he could continue to improve and even next offseason. They threw a lot of money at a guy who hasn't scored 20 goals while playing with 1st overall draft picks.

It wasn't necessary to do this yet.
