find me when RNH gets 90 points
- jimbro83

He only needs to get about 65 to be a better deal than that steal of a 1st liner Brad Richards.

What a joke. 102 games and he gets a contract like this. Terrible and embarrassing for the Oil. Really like their young guys but these contracts are just stupid.

How are these contracts stupid?

I feel I should point out that 6 million doesn't get you a superstar. Mind you RFAs rarely get much more, but 6 million is basically a good first liner. Which is what most would view RNH as. He won't have to score 80-90 points to be worth his contract.

wait, RNH is a UFA and was on the open market to the highest bidder?

I thought actually he was 20 years old and already had a contract for this coming season

Well, for being so much better than RNH, they both put up the same point pace.
- Blackstrom2

Tavares hype hype hype

Rnh has similar numbers. Hall actually has better numbers thus far.

why don't the Oilers try a bridge contract one time?
- jimbro83

Because in two years time, he'll command 7-7.5 per instead of 6.

Of course not, but he was trying to make the comparison that JT, at 5.5 mil/yr is a steal if he has a high potential year, but for some reason RNH, at 6 mil/yr is "just living up to his contract" if he has a high potential year.

Handing out this type of money to a kid who is coming off a 4 goal season and has played 100 games in the NHL is ridiculous.

I am an avid Oiler fan who watched RNH in Red Deer and since he has been an Oiler.

This is a bad deal right where RNH is right now. Got to be blunt and toss some common sense on the situation.

Edmonton could of squeezed RNH for less money and less time because of circumstance.

A couple things to consider.

Will RNH still be an unrestricted free agent at the end of this contract? Don't think so. That's bad.

Does this contract expire the same year as Eberle or Hall? No. Thats Good.

Bad deal right now.

Should. Should. Should be a great deal even after just 2-3 years.

A rather big gamble with huge potential of overpayment or just an absolute steal for the Oilers.

Projections wise is a very smart bet tho.

Tavares is a beast. But I don't see why Hall or RNH suddenly don't have the ability to become what Tavares is, and maybe more.

It's not like he was Stamkos or MacKinnon coming up.

f MacKinnon, I meant McDavid.

Apparently he is 10 or 15lbs heavier, which is pretty good IMO. Secondly, now that this injury from junior is fixed maybe this re-occuring shoulder issue dissappears?
- Lahey

I bet he's going to be absolutely insane this year.

He doesnt make more because he knows what money his team has to spend, its not secret you guys were on the verge of folding if the lockout didnt happened, and why the cap is not going to go up by much next year, because their are 6 teams in the league feeling the heat for money problems. I respect JT for taking a little hit so the team can spend more on the team.
- FiretheGM

folding? you need to get your facts straight. There was, at no time, ever, a situation the Isles were going to fold.

and ps:

John Tavares first 2 years:

2009-10 New York Islanders NHL 82 24 30 54 22 -14 -- -- -- -- --
2010-11 New York Islanders NHL 79 29 38 67 53 -16 -- -- -- -- --

RNH
2011-12 Edmonton Oilers NHL 62 18 34 52 16 -2 -- -- -- -- --
2012-13 Oklahoma City Barons AHL 19 8 12 20 6 7 -- -- -- -- --
2012-13 Edmonton Oilers NHL 40 4 20 24 8 3 -- -- -- -- --

then consider linemates.

RNH makes MORE than Tavares.

If RNH is nominated for the Hart in 2 years you can compare them. This is way too much money for a guy who hasn't proven himself yet.

Hall, sure, he deserves it. Eberle as well. RNH? Good player, need more history to work from. A 2 year deal at 4 per would have been a lot more reasonable
