Interesting.
I thought Schneider was the best last year.

Obviously Toews, and ESPN disagree.

This isn't Ian's list we're talking about. Or any Canuck fans, for that matter...

As a Montréal fan, i absolutely cannot say Price deserves to be in the top 5.

He certainly has the potential to be there but is lack of consistency make him out of the top 5 group, even out of the top 10.

I have to say Lundqvist and Quick are clear top 2. The other one following are Rinne, Rask, Crawford, Niemi.

I consider Luongo in the same spot as Prices, except he owns more experience.

- soad_live

I could not agree more with you. Price can't handle the Mtl heat. He was a great prospect, now is a decent goalie, and I don't think it will change much.

Oh so he sucks......now.

Sarcasm?

Schnieder is a great goalie and will give NJ excellent goaltending long after Marty is gone.

Nice to see Luongo get recognized for what he is. But reading through these comments from trolls they have all made it clear that they know more about NHL goal tending than Toews. Makes sense. What would Jonathan Toews know about the NHL? Trolls on hockeybuzz, especially ones from Toronto who see Luongo play at LEAST twice a season have a much deeper knowledge. Ergo, Toews is a troll.

Opinion polls are irrelevant. Lu will either play well or he won't. Toews liking him doesn't win the Canucks any games.

I think it's difficult to say one goalie is better than all the others. I look at it more as certain tiers or groups.

Quick, Lundqvist and Rinne are the top 3 in my opinion. Then Luongo, Niemi and Rask.

- DarthKane

Agreed.

The team playing in front of the goalie is such a huge part of each goalies successs or lack thereof that declaring any one net minder as the best is silly.

true, but Green is a whole lot more mobile then what Boston has. That allows them to have better movement.

When I've watched the B's it's RD, LD blast or LD, RD blast. You can't really do that if the D are the same hand.

- IanEsplen

tory krug... or however you spell that... was good as a mobile powerplay D in the playoffs.

Watching a blue/white game and there was a goalie making ridiculous saves. I was wondering who it was until he grabbed his water and i saw 1 on the back. Lou is amazing.

It will be interesting to watch nyr get lit up when av's system melts and everyone blames the goalie.

It will be "he doesnt care" or " he has lost it"......in the end it will be av not being ale to adjust and the players tuning him out....

Cujo was an amazing goalie and so were the players pronger gretz and hull. Too bad st louis is so stupid to let them all walk. I would be super jaded too if i let them all go.

Plus you just traded "the guy from sherbrooke who had to be called to see if he had his paychecks cuz he hadnt cashed any in 9 months" traded to edmonton. He just loved hockey and kinda forgot about the money......guess he is better off in canada. Perron gets 40 this year. Singing the blues !!!!!???

To me Lundqvist is a clear head above everyone right now, he's the best and he's been there for a long time. In the new NHL the team in front of the goalie makes a bigger difference than in the late 90's where a team could play the trap in front of a top goalie and win 1-0.

This will be an interesting year for Lundquist. After years of having a coach focus his entire gameplan on his forwards collapsing around the crease and blocking shots, I'm curious to see how players pushing up the ice and exposing him to repeated odd man rushes will affect his performance.

1040 was discussing Tort's defensive system that he's being implementing in practice, scrimmages, and pre-season games. Exactly how you described above. Lu will have a great year. Our scoring problems are just going to get worse.

I might agree but I still have troubles forgetting the playoff game I went to see some years back where we mauled them for 7 goals. Quick was in for 4, then Ersberg was in for 2, then Quick was back in for the last goal. The chant "Not So Quick" springs to mind.

If Torts has the Sedins and Kesler blocking shots I'm switching off the tv. He already played Kesler for 26 mins (6+ mins SH) in the first pre-season game. WTF the logic was behind that I have no idea.
