I think it can be a few options and there is competition in camp. I haven't seen any training camp yet, been far too busy with my other job. What I think is different this year as opposed to the past two is that there is competition for spots to push players.

Now the quality of that competition may be a point of concern for some but it's a step in the right direction.

Hi Pete, have you heard anything about Ian White looking for a deal from winnipeg? he is currently skating with the team and seems to be a natural fit for winnipeg.

I don't see him getting the calder because Winterpeg get's a similar bias against them as EDM does from the media.

One guy scores as many points in 20 less games than the one given the award.

The other goes basically a goal a game in ten game stretch when given the chance to play with Hall, leads rookies in goals and doesn't even get a nomination.

Hall lead west in scoring and 7th overall even though Oilers are one of the lowest scoring teams and he supposedly sucks and Seguin who did nothing and got traded is supposedly still the superstar of the two.

Basically he can come in a score a point a game but if any of Macinnon or Drouin get with 20 points of him and manage a youtube highlight goal this season the media is going to wet themselves over them and find some excuse to pick one of them than from Edmonton east..

I don't think most people who actually follow the game close is going to pick Seguin over Hall. Hall is easily on his way to being one of the best forwards in the league.

why is it a joke? just because the jets didn't have 1st round picks 10 years in a row and still suck doesn't mean this guy can't win the calder. in fact, because they didn't rush him and because the Jets actually have a good mix of vets and youth, they'll win way before the oil ever do. the jets are on the right path. the oil are on the path of the isles. too bad to because eberle and gagner are good canadian kids.

marc will have a very solid rookie campaign but you're right he's no yakupov skating around the ice to celebrate a tying goal. have fun losing again.

"Path of the isles"? You're not too bright are you? Maybe it's time to start paying attention?

If he makes the team out of camp he certainly has a pretty good shot. Real excited to see him play at the NHL level.

Scheifele should be included in early Calder talk and if he does get a shot on the second line with two legit scoring threats and some PP time, the points will come. The biggest knock against him is his skating, but that can be worked on. For example, John Tavares' major drawback as a rookie was his skating and he took great strides (pun) to improve this. Strength and skating can be worked on but vision and playmaking, well it seems you either have it or you don't, and Scheifele seems to have it. The Jets have developed Scheifele properly and, unlike Burmistrov, he seems to have the right attitude. In fact I almost worry the kid is a little too nice.

Shoot, Scheifele definitely looked the part of a top 6 NHL centre last night. Keeping in mind that it's only a pre season game, there was a fair bit of star power last night and Scheifele didn't look out of place at all. Watching him keep up with Kane and Setoguchi was exciting. He made a few sweet passes and he was in front of the net all night. Might just be ready for the show after all. If this second line works out, suddenly the Jets roster looks a lot more complete and if they get rolling early, playoffs might just be realistic.

Trouba, on the other hand, looked 19 years old. Not that I expect him to play much this year anyway but he got pushed around all night. Hopefully he shows more in upcoming games, I sorta feel bad for him.

P.S. who gives a poop about the rookie trophy anyway?
