I'm not gonna say the Flyers are gonna win the Cup this season, I'm just gonna say that they should very well contend this season. It should be a priority to not only win for the organization but win for Kimmo Timonen who has give it his all since being here.

With Timonen in mind I have a question.

Chris Pronger vs. Paul Coffey. Both have had great careers, maybe not as Flyers but overall. Who was better out of the two? Who had the better overall game? Whoever wins this match, how did the winner match up to Mark Howe? I wanna know who was the best defenseman to wear the jersey regardless of how long they were here.

My opinion, Pronger easily had the better overall game then Coffey. Coffey was an incredible offensive defenseman. I would take Pronger over Howe also.

A top 6 guy that excels at face/offs for once.

I still cant believe it.

If the 2nd line ends up being Schenn- Vinny- Simmonds I see all kinds of hell breaking loose. Sign me up.

Line to put together and broken up all the time. I'm starting believe Simmonds should one day be Giroux's long term linemate down the road to create space for Giroux. Then I also believe that Schenn's Ceiling could be as high if not higher then Voracek's. I wouldn't be surprised if someday soon if we saw Giroux center Schenn and Simmonds. Could be deadly.

Overall, Pronger was definitely better. Strictly offensively speaking, Coffey was good. But Pronger's defensive advantage is much larger than Coffey's. Coffey was a better skater, Pronger was a better hitter. Pronger was also more a leader, and could take over a game.

I never saw Howe in his prime, so I won't comment on him.

Do you get any sense that Lavi could be a bit more flexible? Even if he is not going to admit this publicly.

The end of the season "style change" was very encouraging for me.

I'm catching up on back reading some blogs I missed recently.
I loved the story about your son, saying you were the team goalie, going to the rink, etc.

Great stuff!

I asked him a question at the townhall meeting regarding that very topic and he gave a very good response. Bo is going to put a blog together about it. Her first installment is up @ thesportsdiva.com for those of you who would like to check it out

Edit: now she decides to self promote

Belated and part 1 of 4 planned.

Discussion of injuries in tonight's Homer installment. But basically everyone but Pronger (never) and Wellwood (January) expected to be ready for training camp (this was before G's foolishness).

Read a St. Louis fan's projected lineup in the comments of a 30 in 30 article. They used no nicknames in the whole thing, except they called Gustafsson "Goose". I (frank)in love that name!

Hard question to answer because it depends on the team and how it's constructed.

Though Pronger clearly was the better overall d-man, Coffey would've been a better fit than Chris on the early 80's Oilers, but not so much with Pittsburgh or Detroit. Howe would've been a better fit as well.

Pronger couldn't skate with either Coffey or Howe and wasn't close to either Coffee or Howe offensively, but was a much more physical presence than either.

As a leader, Pronger perhaps gets a slight nod over Howe but both were light years ahead of Coffey.

Who do I feel was the best player to wear a Flyers jersey regardless of years? Mark Howe gets my nod as the best overall.

Will we continue with our original PP look or will we find a brand new balance?

A)

Hartnell-Lecavalier-Giroux
Timonen-Voracek

Read-Schenn-Simmonds
Streit-Gustafasson

B)

Schenn-Giroux-Simmonds
Timonen-Voracek

Hartnell-Lecavalier-Read
Streit-Gustafsson

C)

Hartnell - Schenn - Read
Goose - Lecavalier

or
Schenn - Lecavalier - Hartnell

To be fair that 1st unit would be dynamite, I think. Voracek could stay in his goal-scoring sweet spot by the right side of the upper slot, and we could add a cannon/2nd QB on the point with Streit. It'd be shooter's galore.
