Who is everybody's top 3 least liked tv or radio personality? - PhillySportsGuy
The feeling I get is that it's Bruce Garrioch in Ottawa, Damian Cox in Toronto, guys who are writers for local papers who get called on the TV and Radio. |

Are you trying to say that Canada has a deeper and more-storied hockey history than the USA? I don't think you're going to get an argument there.
But today, USA is right there with them. Some people get very turned off by the way that Canada talks about its superiority. Last Olympics, it was, "Well, yeah, the other teams are okay I guess...but Canada is CLEARLY much better, it should be a cakewalk." They were 1 OT goal away from losing.
Same with this past WJC. They had all of these stars, including RNH, all of the other countries were crap. What medal did that group win (coaching aside)?
Look, Canada will always be the easy choice because they basically put together the NHL All Stars. But the USA, Russia, and Sweden can all beat them any given day. - jmatchett383
I thought Canada had too many all stars last time. The USA put together a team that looked more like a standard lineup. A good checking line, PP specialist (Rafalski) and good DD. Having Miller didn't hurt either. Who is going to be Canada's goalie this year? The US is feeling pretty confident with Quick. |

They did. There was this game several years ago where a bunch of USA college kids beat some team that the professional Canadian All Stars weren't able to handle. It even had some name, like the something on ice. - jmatchett383
I think they even made movies about it. The name escapes me, however...... |

Thanks for the compliment. But check back through the comments didn't start the Canada Hockey vs USA Hockey thing but I will finish it. all I tried to do in my original comments was explain that here in Canada having one of your top players skip an Olympic camp is going to be big news. |

As a Flyers fan first, I find all the jingoistic stuff to be kind of odd. I rooted for Canada in 2010, because they had more Flyers than the US. National teams really inspire little passion in me. |

It's not the same when you have professionals playing these games. I'd prefer the amateurs play the Olympics and let the pros have World Cup or Canada Cup or something like that. |

Agreed. World Cup was great because it didn't interfere with the season. Mike Richter was amazing in 1996, by the way. |

I was at some of the games in 1996 at the Corestates Center.
The Canada - USA brawl was just amazing because, only speaking for myself, I wasn't quite expecting THAT level of intensity between the the two teams.

That's the biggest issue, for sure.
I read Bill's blogs. Rarely is there better insight or information than I'd get from any of the local beat writers, even if I hear it 20 minutes later.
I'm a fan of the team, I want coverage of the team. But I don't want the WIP coverage, or the salacious nonsense. Far too often the MSM is just as interested in the off ice stuff as they are the on ice stuff.
And that's not necessarily the beat guys themselves. There are directives from above that they do have to follow, and quite a lot of the TMZ-ization of the sports page comes from that. - Jsaquella
it's just not informative. plenty more in the twitterverse that's better than what we get fed here. we deserve better, and i'm very thankful for bill being one of ours.

It was great because it was 20 seconds into the inaugural event at the game.
Fight 20 seconds in
LeClair scored first goal in new building (not the mention the GTG last in regulation in the Finals Game 1).
Derian Hatcher punched a ref.
But, truth be told, the Canada-Sweden triple OT game was probably the best display of skilled hockey I've ever seen. |

I was in the stands (this was before I was credentialed) for all three World Cup games in Philly in 1996 and I still think it was the best hockey I've ever seen in person. When LeClair scored in the final seconds to force overtime in Game 1 of the best-of-three round against Canada, the building went bonkers. Total strangers were embracing like it was Lake Placid revisited. I will never forget it.
