I think Andrew Ference makes the most as a bridge Captain until one of the Kids steps up and takes it.

I like AF, but you guys have a team full of young bucks. With AF being new to the team and a little older I think an A would be a good fit. For the most part I believe you guys should be going with one of the young studs...and Hall does appear to be a good fit.
These are just observations from a fan of the game. I don't follow the Oil enough to know what players are the true leaders of the team.

Gregor: You had an alternate captaincy last season; Shawn Horcoff is no longer here, so there is a vacancy for the captaincy. Have you thought about that; is that a goal of yours?

Hall: I can’t say that that is a goal of mine. I’d be really honored to have the captaincy here. Just like what everyone says when the captaincy is brought up there have been so many captains that have played here that are great players and great people. Whoever gets it is going to be someone who will be looked upon to create structure for this team and be someone that everyone can lean on so whether it’s me or Jordan or Andrew Ference, it really doesn’t matter to me. It’s just a letter to throw on a jersey and I think that I’ve found my way of leading and that’s on the ice; playing with passion and playing hard every shift. That wouldn’t really change if I had the captaincy to be honest.

Which other teams gave the C to a player because they felt like it was a nice gesture and not because the player is an elite talent on and off the ice?

Bad idea Mr. Blogger, I understand you wanting to entertain us, especially after the dry paint you gave us last time, but this is the wrong kind of entertainment, especially because you're serious...

Good call, chapped lips can seriously affect a teams playoff chances.

Interesting, I hadn't read that before. AF is a solid guy and will be missed by the B's. A team could certainly do a lot worse for a 'bridge C"

I don't think Smyth would be a good choice but you made a good argument.

Why? He's well past his prime and won't be around by next year.

Big thing he has which no one else on our roster really does is being on a winning team. Winning the cup and the discipline that takes would go a long way in the locker room I think.

I would like to see him paired with Justin Schultz or Petry this year. His professionalism and work ethic would be good for the kids to be around.

After reading.
You do make some great points as to why it could be a good idea.
Still I think there are too many cons. How many teams have their captains sit in the press box as I'm sure Smyth will be for at least a few games this year.
Smyth is a shell of his former self and I think the captaincy should be given to a player to lead the team not only in the room and on the ice but forward as a team.

Having said that IF they did name him captain I would feel better about it after having read this blog.

Ive been of the same thinking. But my opinion has changed a bit now that hotcoff is gone. Also I can buy in to the theory that smyth would find rejuvenation in his careerearing the "c". effectively limiting the chances of being scratched. There are imo to many pros not to doit.

I will also agree that it would be a classy move by a classy organization.

Bad idea. I've had the opportunity to sit in the players lounge after games, it is quite obvious when he is the one getting drinks for the kids - He is not the leader. I believe he has a chance of not making the team out of training camp. He MAY be the 6th left winger behind Hall, Perron, Johensuu, Jones, And Ryan Hamilton. Retirement or waivers could be in his near future. He was after all our worst forward last season.

Those are important things. I guess I missed that as being a big deal because of the experience through out the B's line up. I do remember how much of an impact that Recchi had, and it was huge even for the older guys on our team to have that guy who has been there, done that. To bad he turned into a bit of an asshat towards the end.
