Well, this one should at least spark some debate: The top 10 goalies in Flyers history

1. Bernard Marcel Parent - Well duh!! Don't think there will be any debate bout this one! Back to back Vezina and Conn Smythe Trophies, 2 cup rings and a spot in the Hockey Hall of Fame pretty much say it all. At his best, Bernie was just about unbeatable.

2. Ron Hextall - Tough call here between Hexy and Lindbergh, but I gave the nod to Hexy mainly due to length of career and his amazing play in the 87 playoffs. A Vezina trophy and 3 straight team MVP awards didn't hurt either!

3. Pelle Lindbergh - If only.... He had just come into his prime when tragedy struck. I still get choked up when I think about him today. Probably would have led the Flyers to a cup in 86 too (sigh)

4. Pete Peeters - Peeters had a great rookie season in 79-80, and some nice moments in other seasons too. It says a lot about Flyers goaltending since the Hextall era to have Peeters #4 on this list.

5. Roman Cechmanek - An enigma to be sure, but his regular season numbers were just phenomenal. Would have been interesting to see what he could have done in the postseason if the team in front of him actually scored a goal or 2.

6. Wayne Stephenson - Often overlooked since he spent most of his time backing up Parent, Stephenson did a very nice job in the mid to late 70s, especially during the 75-76 season. Was outdueled by Ken Dryden in the 76 finals, but hard to really hold that against him.

7. Doug Favell - Favvy backstopped the Flyers to their 1st ever playoff series victory in 1973. A streak goalie, when he was on he was great, when he wasn't he really struggled.

8. Bob Froese - Frosty gave the Flyers some very good goaltending from 1983-1986, but he just wasn't a top #1 guy like Lindbergh or Hextall.

9. Brian Boucher - Boosh had a great run in the 2000 playoffs and who could ever forget the shootout of 2010. In between he had some moments, but was mostly a back up for the bulk of his career.

10. Marty Biron - Biron's solid goaltending really helped stabilize the team during the 07-08 season, but he was never the kind of guy who could take a team to a championship.

Just missed the cut:
Uh, no one really, the list really is pretty weak after the top 3. Hopefully in a few years either Mason or Emery will be shooting up the chart!

"Silent" Bob Esche could be a "just missed the cut" guy or even ahead of Marty Biron (although, I liked Marty B). He was a big part of that 2004 run and if we could have kept a defenseman healthy longer than 5 minutes, might have won a Cup.

Very well done. Just a few omissions. Tommy Soderstrom, Jeff Hackett, and Dominic Roussel have to find their way on this list.

Another good list. Can't argue too many with it or where the goalies are ranked. In regard to Peeters, he was a two-time NHL All-Star while with the Flyers and won a Vezina after he was traded to Boston. His career was uneven and fell off big time after the Vezina season, but he was a solid #4 on the list.

I'm neither a Biron or Esche fan but I would easily put Robert Esche over Martin Biron. I would say the teams they played on were pretty even but for the most part, when Biron crapped the bed in his second season, he made a mess.

Its pretty rough to admit that Roman Cechmanek could very well be the Flyers fourth or fifth best goaltender in Flyers history. Ditto for Brian Boucher being any lower then 10th and Martin Biron being in talks at all.

I have no doubt that one of Steve Mason or Ray Emery can make this list in three seasons. There is one way they can sour on them both in two years.

Last, Robert Esche in my opinion was far from silent. Must be an ironic name

I think Esche stopped talking to the press at some point (thus, earning that nickname).

You think? The last media interview I remember with Robert Esche was his second last season with the Flyers complaining about Hitch possibly choosing Niittymaki as the starter for the playoffs, before Hitch even made a decision. Esche had issues staying healthy that season, which saw Niittymaki take a record amount of starts in a row as a rookie (or something along these along these lines). The season after was worse, which is why we traded for Martin Biron. By mid season of 06/07 I don't think there was a real reason to speak with esche. He was out on his ass before his contract was up. I now wanna see Niittymaki's numbers regardless of being a back up. He was a very good back up.

According to Twitter from Flyers Customer Service this afternoon, Meet the Flyers is at Xfinity Live 9/13 at 2. Not sure about admission. I know at least some of it is reserved for STHs as one of their Early Bird benefits.

ETA: Free and open to the public according to Flyers publicist Alicia DeFillipo.

Nitty would always play well as the #2 guy, but each time he was made the starter he either struggled or got hurt.

I do not recall Niitty ever getting much of a shot as a starter. His best opportunity as a Flyer seemed like it came early in his career backing up Esche and we signed Martin Biron thinking he would be the answer to our prayers. In Niittymaki's first full season as our back up, I thought he was solid in Esche's Absence. Lucky for us Biron for the most part remained rather healthy. I thought there was a lot of Bobrovsky in Niittymaki.

Really? You're going there? They're not charging (and never have) for camp. Not charging for the draft. Never have charged for meet the Flyers. Have free BBQ for STHs in the fall. Town Hall including dinner--free to STHs. Playoff block parties no cover. when they did the viewing party for game 7 in Boston, free.

Yes, the tickets are expensive for the games. But people willingly pay them to sell out the place. They don't have a history of bleeding for the side shows.

They could charge say $5 and put it all towards some local charity. The shocked was more sarcasm if anything.

I'm well aware of what they do for free, having been a past STH

I'm loving that Grabovski, Alberts and Murray all got signed today. It just tells me the season is near and the floodgates are opening. Finally some interest before training camp.
