Just a thought on Scott Laughton making the team.

Many believe that Scott Laughton's best chances to make the team is to be a fourth line center and beat out Adam Hall or play the wing on the third or fourth line. My question is, how is Laughton in his first real camp expected to beat out a vet like Hall at his own bread and butter? Hall should have his own workout routine. Hall is an established NHL player. Hall should know what is expected of him. Can Laughton beat out Hall with such little experience? I don't think so. As far as playing the wing, I compare Laughton more to Sean couturier. As a defensive forward who naturally plays the middle, do we not want to keep him at center? Let's not rush him into the league if we don't have to. I think Laughton's best bet to make the team is by injury in camp.

Agreed. Also--easier to trade him as a top prospect than as a potentially overmatched NHL rookie (not that I'm advocating a trade--but in the right package...)

Actually, his best shot is to beat out Rosehill for the 4th line winger. If he does so, he should be given a 9-game tryout. If it doesn't work well, send him back to juniors.

What?? Rosehill is the odd man Bearing injury no matter what. Rosehill is the 13th forward, while Talbot, Rinaldo and Hall work the forth line. All assuming Gagne gets signed and placed on the third line of course.

Hartnell - Giroux - Voracek

Read - Couturier - Read

Did you just post Read twice? You're missing Talbot and I guarantee a Gagne signing

So you're guaranteeing something that you have no control over?

Yes, if Gagne signs, then his best shot is to beat Hall. You didn't say that. As the roster currently sits, his best shot is to beat out Rosehill.

I'm guaranteeing a Gagne signing. Laughton will not in the least compete with Rosehill. Rosehill is most suited for being the 13th and extra forward. Rosehill would have to compete with Rinaldo if he is serious about playing every night. Laughton would have to compete with Hall for the fourth line center role or against Gagne and McGinn for the third line wing role.

I don't believe Laughton will end up on the team for an 82 game stretch, if at all. I think he'll be the front line center for the Generals this season.

Sorry, I wasn't aware that it's a certainty that Gagne is getting signed and I didn't know we had McGinn pencilled in as a starter. I'm not trying to be smug, but you're assuming a lot.
If Gagne is signed, then he'd competing against Read for the 4th line winger, barring injury. If Gagne is not signed, and you're assuming McGinn's in, then he's competing against McGinn.

All Laughton has to do to make the team is be one of the top 13 forwards on the team. Not beat anyone player out. And there's no reason why he can't play on the Wing for a Season. In my opinion, it's not about rushing or not rushing him. It's about if he's good enough.

Even if he makes the team and has some expected Rookie struggles. I don't see that lessening his trade value.

I'd prefer him to be one of the top 12. To me, I'd prefer him getting the 9-game tryout and see what he can do as opposed to having him sit and hope that he can handle the NHL if/when needed.

I disagree. His role on the team has to make sense for him to be here.
