So, on a scale from 1 (Bouregard, Houle) to 10 (Parent, Pelle), how do you think the Flyers are in goal right now, if you had to predict? And how would you rate last year.

I think last year was a 5. It was average to below average, not disgraceful (contract aside). Right now, I'm feeling a 6, maybe pushing a 7.

Last year I give a 3.5. This season I'd say a 6.

I'd say 7 is about right. Gotta really see how it pans out. At the end of the day, I think the tending will be slightly improved from last year, but with less money spent and less negative media focus.

So, is Conklin gonna do a gangsta impersonation to imitate Emery?

So you expect them to be 20th in GAA and SV%?

It's difficult to put a number on things considering the Flyers haven't shown much consistency in goal.

If I were basing the number on how the Flyers shake up league wide with Quick/Lundqvist being 10 and playoff Fleury being 1, I would say the Flyers were a 4 last year and a 5 this coming season.

I thought Bryz was average last year and the lack of a true backup for 90% of the season pushed team goaltending to below average.

I say 5 for this season because I believe Emery can be a consistently average goalie with this team. Mason has the ability to be very good, but also very bad. The 5 could easily become a 6-8 if Mason plays well. Emery will at least keep it at a 4-5 if Mason implodes like columbus.

I like the addition of Streit for offensive reasons, but I am not convinced our D corps or overall team D will be much improved over last year. I "hope" it will be. If Emery stays healthy, he can help, but it doesn't fall solely on the tenders.

Vinny>Briere
Streit>Gervais
Emery/Mason =/> Bryz/No backup

That being said, I'm still worried about team defense. Hopefully, the young guys will step up and become better two-way players. I'm talking more about Schenn and Simmonds.

Streit's gotta be better than Gervais...right?

No, but Im sure Barkann will get him and Simmonds together and ask them to sing Milli Vanilli songs or something.

THe team is better this year than last, in every aspect IMO. Staying healthy will go a long way for them.

Vinny will help the offense a ton with his size and strength. Our defense got a lot better moving the puck.

L. Schenn and B. Schenn are ? marks for me this year.

Agree with all of your points. I am intrigued as to what Vinny will bring with his size. THe team was harping about adding size to the forward corps, and I think Vinny still has some in the tank.

How low are my expectations that I'd be happy if either of them finished in the top 25 in either GAA or SV%.

Bryzgalof couldn't get past 50.

I see them as a 6, with 8 potential. If both goalies have strong years it would be one of the best 1-2 punches I can remember.

I actually feel good about their goaltending.

Unfortunately, it's always going to be a media focus until the Flyers win a Cup.

It's unfair, but it's true.

Soderstrom was one of the nicest players ever. He used to go out to lunch with random fans after practice.

They don't need Vinny to be 2007-2008 Vinny Lecavalier.

He has to be better than Danny B was the past couple of regular seasons. That really shouldn't be too tough.

Regardless, i see an upgrade in goal unless Emery's hip explodes and Mason regresses. I think we are going to score a lot of goals, but team D will dictate how the tending looks.

I agree. For some reason, i think he can be more than a 50-60 pt guy. I see him being very motivated.

I agree.

I'm actually pretty excited to see how Mason's puck handling ability can augment the defense over a larger sample size of games. I refuse to believe that it won't help at all.
