I was 31 and I cried.

- MBFlyerfan

I was at a bar when Stevens hit Lindros and likely drank myself stupid.

I went to a bar later in Long Beach Island. I wasn't in the mood for revelry as I was a little too close to Devils country that day.

Lindros was my first. I was 9 when he got pummeled by Stevens and I cried after that game.

He was my first when I was 9 also. I didn't cry, but I was upset.

I love this blob...

My first sports hero was Al MacInnis. I guess I was around 7 years old when I first started getting really into hockey, and MacInnis was just getting started with the Blues... To this day, MacInnis is still my favorite d-man that I was able to watch.. The Blues are my West Conf. team of choice...

Here is something pretty incredible.. after sticking with CGY for his first "full season" (52 games), MacInnis went on to score at least 10 goals in every season EXCEPT the lock-out shortened season in 94-95 where he scored 8 goals. That would be 20 seasons with at least 10 goals for a d-man. He also statistically had one minus season (+-). He only played 3 games in 2004, and was a -1. I played defense for one year (7th grade) and I selected #2 for my jersey.

As for the Flyers, Eric Lindros was inevitably my favorite.. but there was also this kid in Colorado that I was infatuated with. To this day I still wear #21 as a result of Peter Forsberg... my favorite player of all time.

and kariya returned to the game and wired an absolute bullet over brodeur's glove. gorgeous goal. sadly, the ducks lost in 7. gee, how surprising.

Quite ironic that the "Mickey Mouse" organization beat the organization owned by Mickey Mouse.

(How that didn't appear in an Alanis Morissette song astounds me.)

It was May 26th and I gave my tickets away so I could take my wife out to dinner for our Anniversary. Best thing I ever did. A guy who was setting up for the band that night had on a Flyers shirt and he kept me up to date during the evening.

I remember that game like it was yesterday.. I was turning 12 and I thought for sure the Flyers were gonna win the cup. A one point they had a 3-1 lead in the series. Lindros had just come back and was an absolute monster, easily the best player on the ice despite the Flyers losing. Game 7 was going to be a piece of cake. That hit ruined my year. The Flyer go on to lose the game after that hit, and the Devils end up beating the Stars. Salt in wound? Stevens wins the Conn Smythe

I cried when Lidros got hit, and then again when the Devils won game 7.

My first Sports Hero was Walter Payton. I always thought he was perfect. I remember how down trodden I was several years ago when I found out he cheated on his wife in his biography. The drug issues meant nothing to me.

This sounds like how I felt about Dr. J.

When the whole Alexandra Stevenson thing came out, I can remember thinking "I can't believe Doc did that".

The older I've gotten, the less judgey I've gotten about the personal foibles of professional athletes.

I was in LBI watching the game with my father in law and when it happened, i dropped the F-Bomb and walked out of the room. I went over to the park for about 5 to 10 min. I don't really remember the rest of the game.

Nice! A cricketer mentioned on a hockey board, that too in the USA.

My hockey hero is Eric Lindros. Being from India, my first sports hero is Sachin Tendulkar.

The way I figured it If they won I'd be going to the next playoff game and if they lost I'd be sitting through the worst collapse in recent memory and one of the worst in Flyers history.

I felt the same way with Dr. J. It get's me down and I'm disappointed and I hate that it hangs over the memories I have. It's all about athletes from my childhood. Athletes today... I couldn't careless what they do in their personal lives.

Mickey sang duet with Alanis on the planned song but the high screeching caused the studio to shatter.

Exactly.

You know the thing people say about hockey trades? "You know....if they can trade Wayne Gretzky, they can trade anybody....".

That's how I felt about the Alexandra Stevenson thing with Dr. J. If it can happen to Doc....

completely understand...however, the desire to be in the building to see them dispose of the devils would have been too overwhelming, iow, worth the risk of the epic collapse.
