Yep. And if he's claimed, they could get another player similar to him for a bag of peanuts. I'm not at all worried about losing Rosehill.

I still don't see how they can trade Meszaros before camp. They might not be able to move him until later than that, which would require sending a few of the fringe guys to the AHL, on paper at least.

They need to be under the cap at the end of camp, then they can LTIR Pronger and get his full cap hit as LTIR relief. To do that, they can waive and "send" Rosehill, Bourdon and Gervais to the AHL, and then immediately recall one or two of them.

Then they can fit Meszaros and Gagne under the cap, via the LTIR relief of Pronger.

Bourdon might not pass. I think that Schenn/Couturier are waiver exempt, so they could send one or both of them down and the recall them after they LTIR Pronger.

For anyone who says Giroux had a down year:

Kurt ‏@Kurt_BSH

Claude Giroux: faces stronger defensemen (by TOI) than literally any player in hockey, scores a point per game, has a Down Year. #LRT

Not surprised to read this.

I don't understand the "Giroux had an off year" camp.

Jake Voracek doesn't have the year he had without Claude and if the two of them had any help from their 3rd linemate on that line, it would have been even better.

Maybe the expectations were too high. It seemed like an off year to me. If a point per game pace is an off year, though, I'm really glad we got him signed for the foreseeable future.

I just read part of the Laughton debate.

I remember Homer saying after they sent Laughton back to juniors, the main reason was because he needs to get bigger and stronger for the rigors of the NHL.

He has added 15lbs of muscle since then. Was he offensively dominant for the Generals? It depends on the definition of dominant...

Just to feed thought, look at his stat line from two seasons ago to this past season..

64 games- 21 goals- 32 assists- 53 points +8 (.8ppg)

49 games- 23 goals- 33 assists- 56 points +22 (1.15 ppg)
Including the playoffs:
56 games- 30 goals- 39 assists- 69 points (1.23 ppg)

For a second line center, who is primarily known for his defense... his expanded ppg average over 64 games (74 points) would have him in the top 20 in points in the league.

So.. since the Flyers drafted him, he has managed to play in 5 games for the Flyers while not looking out of place, albeit needed to get stronger.. Goes back and IS dominant... one of the more dominant players with the likes of Sean Monahan (who was a 1.3 ppg player, getting first line and go to guy minutes), added 15 lbs of muscle, and in his 6 appearances for the Phantoms had 3 points...

I think he has proved a lot, and if the Flyers track record is any indication.. we will see him in O&B this season.

He might not, but it's not all that likely he would get grabbed, simply because of the concussions.

Of the three, he's the guy I'd be most worried about losing.
