He would learn more in 1 week with an NHL team, than an entire world Jrs.

If he makes the team can't the team still let him go to play in the tournament?

I think 10-15 years ago it was a lot tougher to make the jump from junior hockey....these days these 18 years olds are just as big and strong as current NHLers. I don't want Monohan to see 4th line minutes, but if he can play 15 minutes per game with some time on the PP i'd like to see him up here.

Absolutely....and considering the fact that the Flames will probably be well out of it by then I would like to think they would consider sending him anyway.

Arguable. The WJC's are a couple weeks of intense practice and competition.

He would be an Alpha Male at the worlds, not so much in the NHL.

He would learn a lot about leadership, winning (hopefully), and playing in big games.

Getting pumped on a Tuesday night in Anaheim? Maybe not as much

He'll probably be good enough to crack the squad. But does having him there make a big difference to the team? I doubt he makes them much better. For this reason I send him back down. They'll likely be drafting high anyways. Give him another year in junior. Don't eat a year of his elc. Have him on the big club in 2014/15 when they may have a chance to push for the playoffs.

They can always send him to the Jrs, if he needs it. He has learned about as much at his current level as he will. JMO

A whole year in Ottawa and playing in the World Junior Tournament is 2 very different things IMO.

I agree that he has probably done enough back in junior. It's a fine line, it'll all depend on camp I guess.

IJMO that if he makes the team it'll likely be a 3rd line start for him and at this point, guys like Knight, Horak and possibly Reinhart are better options and more NHL ready for that role.

Still, both Seiloff and Wotherspoon are a couple of years out I would think. Are thinking the Flames will be or should be looking to fill out the 1C and 1Rw via fa signing or trade or draft?

RW is definitely our weakest position throughout the organization. Nick Richie cojld be a possible solid draftee next year if we can't vet Ekblad or can pick up a 2nd 1st rounder.

- TandA4Flames

I'd prefer them to trade down for nick ritchie and get another 2015 1st round pick

seiloff/wotherspoon, are 2-3 yrs away from being go to top 4 guys. but they're in the system. that why I think focus over the next couple years should be to find that #1RW (and a big one) to play with the likes of baert, backland, monahan and whomever is stepping up our ranks.

Maybe Jones or gigliardi wil surprise us this year and fill that role on the 2nd line. But I'm not expecting it.

If they could trade for Coyle in minny, that would be a great match for their needs on RW (cammy/Brossoit/Granlund for Heatley/Coyle/2015 2nd)

i think that a kid who earns the right to play with the big club, should be able to stay no matter what the age. that said, i think the team's fans, need to have confidence in the coaching staff and managment in order to mold and help shape the kid on his journey to the nhl. right now, im not 100% sure the flames have all the right personnel to mold the young stars.

who would these rooks be staying with? who is director of player development? director of player personnel?

with out solid vets or even ex hockey players guiding these players i think it could also be a huge mistake for the kids to come up.

Well, Gelinas is an assistant coach, this helps. Conroy is Special Assistant to Feaster. Also considering our Director of player personnel is Weisbrod: "Prior to joining the Flames, Weisbrod was part of the Boston Bruins Stanley Cup championship team in 2011 where he was the Director of pro and collegiate scouting since joining the organization in September of 2006."

Long story short, I'm not worried about our player development as much as our player management.
