One question. Did Steve Mason carrie the Columbus Blue Jackets on his back to the playoffs every year? It sounds to me that's what you expected of Ilya Bryzgalov and will be expecting of Steve Mason. This observation is based on your last few posts.
- dingo8urbaby

The Blue Jackets had the Vezina winner for 48 games and STILL didn't make the playoffs.

Know what that tells me?

It tells me that Columbus had WAY more problems than Mason could solve and maybe, just maybe, all of the negative crap in that organization with the on ice product finally wore Mason down and he needed a change in scenery.

That said, I have no idea if Mason is the answer or not. It's gonna be REAL awkward for some hockey writers who had fun punting around the Flyers for getting rid of Bob if Mason, somehow, resuscitates his career here and Bob maybe doesn't repeat his lockout shortened performance next year.

This question may offend some of you, but I was thinking about it on the way to work this morning:

Do you really think you could beat up Sidney Crosby in a street fight? He's 5'11", 200lb, and probably has under 5% body fat. That's not big by hockey standards, but for a regular person, that's actually impressive. So, could you take Crosby?

- jmatchett383

I'm 6'1 200, but definitely not. I'm not exactly what you'd call, well conditioned.

I think my hate for him would keep me in the fight for a little bit.

They have rinks in this state?
- jmatchett383

Yeah but other than the University good luck finding them.

Obviously not. He's a pro athlete. There are very few pro athletes that I could actually see myself beating in a fight, and most of them are curlers. Even if they're smaller, they're still jacked (I reference Danny Briere beating up Kyle Turris last year)

And there's that. If he's played the correct way (consistent line mates, faceoff relief, more offensive zone starts, etc) I don't doubt he'd be able to put up 90 points again.
- JAKEw1234

I'd say he's at least a PPG player. Teams threw the top pair out against him quite a bit last year. He should improve in his even strength play this season.

His saving grace for points is his PP play. He's a dynamic PP player. That will always allow him to collect a lot of points.

If he can take on the opposing teams top pairing while being a plus player and scoring a PPG, that's more than enough in my book. The other guys will need to step up to make teams pay.

He's a professional athlete, so it's his job to be in top shape.....so yeah....probably not.

I think I'm in pretty decent shape for a guy my age (old) and size (6-1 225 lbs), and I still don't think I could take a kid whose only job is to keep himself in top shape.

I'm hiring Jeff Gillooly if I ever get into my fictional street fight with Sidney Crosby.

I understand he's pretty good at swinging a pipe at skater's knees.

My only saving graces in that fight would be that I wouldn't be afraid to fight him and that I'd rather get beaten unconscious than give up. That said he probably is even more competitive than that when he wants to be and, yes, if he's able to grab me, it's all over. Basically, I was thinking you'd have to land a hell of a first shot and get him off balance and just land a flurry of punches early on and hope it's enough. Because once he has the upper hand, it's over.

I always wondered if he went out in Philly when the Pens came to town. I imagine he wouldn't receive a warm welcoming to any bar.

I've beaten bigger men, and a few women too. lol J/K about the women.

Really though, it would depend how mad I get. If I blackout with rage, I would destroy him. I'm a bigger guy, not a lot of stamina, but enough power to knock him to the ground, keep him on the ground, and not stop...

But really I'm a teddy bear until a get pushed that far.

Sidney Crosby's balance is probably one of his better attributes as a hockey player, despite seeming to fall down if breathed upon heavily.

My guess is that he probably sticks to a hotel bar (that probably has nothing but other travelers and prostitutes) or enjoys his Canadian Ginger Ale in his room.
