I caught every single one of Mason's starts as a flyer last season and I have a question for all of you. Was Steve Mason better than Ilya Bryzgalov? Did Mason out play Bryzgalov? My response is that I didn't see enough starts from Mason to say that he did. I'm not even positive even with Bryzgalov gone that Mason will be our starter. He could end up being next summer's joke.

Next question. How good of a season did Claude Giroux have this part season?

While there wasnt enough of a sample to make a clear cut case for Mason, you could see Mason's athleticism and speed and puck handling abilities. Bryz had none of that. Mason clearly has talent. And yes, he outplayed Bryz. Giroux had a better season than his numbers would suggest. Different linemates all season, couldnt start the rush cause we didnt have enough puck moving defensman. Giroux still gave his all, finished a point per game and was great on faceoffs and a big reason we had great special teams.

I think Mason's athletic attributes suit this Flyers (lack of) defense better than Bryzgalov's. Bryzgalov is good when he can be square to the shooter and get a clean look at it. However, his side-to-side movement is sad (glove save on Letang being an outlier). Mason, on the other hand, is much more athletic, and will give you more "highlight reel" types of saves, but doesn't take up as much net as Bryz. So for a team constantly giving up oddman rushes, you'd prefer Mason.

Giroux didn't have a great season, but none of the Flyers shy of Voracek did, offensively. But he still had those moments where he could just will his team to a win (the Washington OT win). I think with some more offensive depth and a healthy line, he'll be better.

Exactly. Giroux was only good and needs to be better this upcoming season. We had plenty of issues outside of Bryzgalov, including the Captain.

Group, or race/religion? For instance, I truly hate the WBC and all that they stand for. But I have no hate (maybe some dislike) for Baptists in general.

Giroux was replied on too much and in the process tried to.do too much, which led to mistakes.

Cause that my opinion, Its not like Mason just came to Philly and got a hot streak coming off the bench, You could clearly see that Mason was the more talented goalie, at least he can move post to post and stop a breakaway.

Why are you defending a goalie who arguably one of the worst goaltenders we have had. Even Boucher could post better numbers than that with the same defense. Im out.... Bryz is gone, thank god, we will be a much better team without him. You will see.

Who do you guys think will wear the cycling "A" along with Hartnell, as the home or away alternate? Or will Hartnell just wear it all the time? Personally I'd like to see Simmonds get it.
