The look you are speaking of will end once he shows Q he can't play defense and gets knocked of the puck....it's Krugers job until Danault is ready. - UnnamedSource

It is my humble opinion that Danault will never play much centtr in the NHL ...he will be wing.

My question is...who will be blamed for the first "softie" Crawford gives up next year? Crow or the new goalie coach?
Only thing I'll guarantee is that someone on this board will be b!tchin' about it. - ArlingtonRob
why, Mr Softy himself, of course.

Why do you think that? What is your opinion on Shaw at center? Even though I would split them up, imagine what a line of Danault-shaw-Hartman would be? |

Damnit Wiz...say it aint' so. One of our best center ice prospects you say likely won't play center, and one of our best current centers plays wing all the time.
What is it with the Hawks and NOT having a good, deep roster full of center icemen.

I don't know about that. Danault will see some icetime at some point this year. Probably full-time next year. Stan mentioned getting Hartman up here asap. Obviously not this year but maybe some time in the 2014-2015 season I can see him getting some time here. Really smart and competitive players like Hartman can sometimes advance quicker. Especially for bottom 6 roles |

DANAULT @ C or W
Seems to me . . . AT LEAST one of these guys who everyone keeps saying is going to play W as opposed to C in the NHL (Danault, McNeill, Kruger, Shaw, Teravainen . . . ) needs to ultimately end up at C. I'll come back to this in a second.
There is an organizational need for centers, made greater by the trade of Dave Bolland.
Just riding out the logic. Has it been easy for the Hawks to acquire quality centers? Aside from Handzus, who has truly been lightning in a bottle in every sense of the phrase, no. And Handzus probably has one year of limited treadwear left.
There's another name . . . Joakim Nordstrom . . . who really is a true center and projects on the higher end as sort of a Sami Pahlsson type guy. Maybe he fills the Bolland role, or the 4th line C role.
But the truth is, unless a couple of the aforementioned 5 young players end up at C, the Hawks will have a glaring hole everywhere except #1C.
Examining the skills of the players listed above, two jump out (to me) as really true centers: Kruger and Danault.
Teravainen, McNeill and Shaw all seem to me better suited to the W. Kruger and Danault think and play the game like centers, defensively responsible up and down the ice, pass first, good vision, Danault (at least) appears to be strong on faceoffs.
I don't think you can rule Danault out as a C in the pros or say he's better suited to W, because he was flopped to W at times in international play for Team Canada. Those teams had an embarrassment of riches as far as centers and the coaches could afford to move their forwards around . The Hawks really don't have that luxury at the center position. And in truth, guys like Danault and Kruger, it can be argued, are MORE out of position on the flank than they are in the middle, their natural positions.

Hey JJ!
Good point about Danault playing wing on team Canada because they had an abundance of C's..I also think he'll be playing C in the NHL,at least fro da Hawks, unless they land a few quality C's very soon, but that isn't likely..
Do you remember when the Hawks came back from 3-1 down VS Detroit?....That was awesome anyways i was wondering who was the former player i believe(i think u said that) who said that they think the Wings awoke a sleeping giant? His analysis when u look at it,was pretty much spot on don't you think?
If u can't reveal their name that's cool too,was just curious

I only saw RFD three times last year, but Nordstrom stood out in all three games. I'm looking forward to seeing this guy at the next level, but I don't think he's quite ready yet. |

Hello JJ, how's is going? I have seen discussion about who plays C or W, and I've always been curious about what it is in young players that tells a scout whether a forward would be better at one or the other. Is it something in the skill set, or perhaps in their desire/ability to play defense, too? Also, is there something about the system played by the NHL club that calls for a certain type of player at the center position? I guess what I'm asking is this - what makes a center for the Hawks and what makes a wing?
Thanks, I'll hang up and listen for my answer! Have a good one. |

Nordstrom, McNeil, Danault, Teravainen, Hartman, etc.... All at least 2-3 years away from a peek at NHL ice, assuming they can play on the AHL ice well as a prerequisite. They are all still prospects at best right now.
Secondly, I also don't see any of them being rushed along, as it is counter to the Bowman philosophy of making sure prospects are well done before they are served to the NHL roster.
Finally, it is also just as likely that some of these guys will be trade chips. |

I hope they're not rushed along. The next 1-2 years can be about seeing who of Pirri, Hayes, Morin and Smith can stand out. After that the next wave of McNeill, Danault, and Teravainen come through. For the next 3 - 5 years we should have some decent prospects fighting for a roster spot. |

He's trying to heat up the new division rivalry before it falls apart due to a lack of blue line depth and questionable goaltending.
