Oilers are in better shape to pay Kessel but why the (frank) would we want to? Yak will be just as good if not better and still cheaper and younger. Let's just end this. Kessel for Yak would be a non starter.

Cool starry bra... It's great that you can tell the future of what a player will turn out like...its also possible that when yakupov's contract expires, he bolts for the khl... people have already told me that ufa's don't wanna stay in edmonton so why would rfa's?

Im late to the party with Walt. Waiting until this season is done and then I will do an epic watch-a-thon.

This is Sons last season too isn't it?

Knew Jax would get him. He's too smart.

to me the end of last season for breaking bad was a perfect way to end it. Hope this season doesn't jump the shark.

That's what you do when you hate the place you're playing and want to leave. Uproot your whole family and move them there.

You shouldn't worry so much about what Yakapov is gonna do and worry a little more about what's gonna happen with your own team. The sisters will leave as UFA's next summer when they hate playing for Tortorella and Loungo will demand a trade again.

uhh ok...if you have that little confidence that kessel wont sign there...what does that say about other UFA's and Yakupov in 2 years for that matter?
- annoyance_101

Well in 2 years yak will be an RFA without arbitration rights so oilers own him for atleast 6 more years. Besides yak is a lock to beca 40 goal guy, Kessel doesn't get that deal done.

What people told you this? Yeah, the Pronger thing was bad, but who since? I don't believe that Edmonton is such a rough destination to get pros to play in. It's part of it but mostly about winning.players from Ontario and Onward East like the East so mom and dad and grandpa can see them play. I get that. Some players want sunshine and to be anonymous and I get that too. Some players( the ones we want) just want to win, above all else, which is why they sign with Detroit and not Florida. The day will arrive when big name players that want to win are calling Mac T in July .hopefully anyway.

I love when Yak kisses the Oil drop. Gotta admit, haven't seen a guy bleed Oiler blue like that since Smytty.

Wouldn't say a lock. Although he was on pace for like 29 or 30 this year and was just getting started at the end of the season

Seems like too happy of a kid to care about money in russia.

" I want to play in Edmonton for a long time. I like everything about Edmonton: the city, the arena, the fans, the team, the management, and the people working at the club."

That's from an interview done in the last week

ah well that does bode well for you guys, i didn't know that about him...i'm always skeptical about russians staying and playing in the nhl lately, and i don't think many could blame me good on him if thats really the case, i have more respect for the kid than i did earlier

As I said, I have a bad impression of russians that play in the nhl, maybe 1 bad apple spoiled my outlook on russians as a whole in the nhl...but i'm very glad yakupov will stay in NA regardless if its in Edmonton or not...lets be realistic, unless the cap rises considerably, they'll HAVE to start trading some assets...especially if yakupov stays in edmonton...

Hall and Eberle's contracts set the bar at 6M. If Yak and RNH get the same deal, that's only 4.450M added to the cap. Maybe deal one of Eberle or Yak if the right Dman is available. But they'll be fine regardless

Yes then theres Schultz you'll have to also pay...and Nurse...you have to think about the future...regardless if Nurse is far in the future or not...you need to keep cap space available for such a player

15-20 years from now, I think we'll be looking back and saying that the 2013-14 Oilers had 4 of the top 10 forwards in Oilers history.

Schultz'll be getting Voynov-Hamonic money. Won't be getting 5 or more. Around 1M added to the cap with his next contract unless he has 50P this year. Nurse's ELC won't even kick in til he's in EDM/OKC which won't be for at least 2 years, not a problem for minimum 5 years

They can to the KHL...

That being said, I highly doubt Yakupov goes anywhere. But that doesn't mean that he can't.
