What was the point of this?

What was the point of his last blog about who the most interesting teams are and how he cherry picked whatever information he wanted depending on his bias towards the team. Oh this team isn't relevant because their fans aren't great at all but this team who has the best fans in the league, well they aren't interesting cause I don't like their roster. Oh and this team over here, well I don't like the way he zamboni's the ice so they aren't interesting at all.

Hemsky's trade value can only go up if he stays healthy and starts the season. If Nuge isn't ready and Hall plays C, there's room for Hemmer on the top 6. He's also playing for next year's contract. He can have a better chance of getting traded if he gets off to a solid start and would do the Oil a favour at the same time.

The average age of this roster is (as of now) - 26.7

Nowhere near 29.

yeah.

classic leafs prospect/roster logic here. younger=better.

- Jurco_28

Well we did finish higher than Detroit so I'm guessing the older thing isn't exactly working either.

Are you implying that the people who run/write/comment are not intelligent? Cause if you are I agree

Building around Eberle, Hall, Nuge, Yaks, Schultz, Nurse and Klefbom, the oilers literally don't have to worry about being too old for about 15 years.

As opposed to figuratively worrying about it?

I don't understand why people come on here to complain. It's RC's blog, so it's his opinion. We all know he has no real or credible sources and he's not writing on behalf of all Oiler fans. The guy writes his opinions and I kind of agree with his take on most other teams, if it's not the oilers who cares.

I don't know why you Oiler fans are so hell bent on trading someone (Nick Schultz) every time a kid is ready to go...you still need these players, it's called depth. I live in Edmonton and hear it every day on the radio from the local clowns.

Yes. Smid, Ference, N Schultz, Grebeshkov, Belov, and possibly Klefbom all on the left side. N Schultz with a hefty cap hit of 3.5M. EDM could use that money to sign say, Cleary or Mueller

Agreed but why trade him at all, Hemsky gives us depth at forward and a strong right wing, probably amongst best in league. If any injuries occur you got an instant solution. If he plays his role well you try to resign him to a more affordable contract if he doesn't walk as a free agent.

sorry that should read "don't have to worry about it for literally 15 years". Nice catch

EDIT: Indeed, perhaps an even clearer way to phrase this would be to say that "with no exaggeration, the Oilers will not have to worry about it for 15 years.

That D isn't the strongest to begin with. Just because Ference played on the Bruins doesn't make him the anchor of the defence. Just seems they chase everyone out of town as soon as they believe there is no use for them or think their fortunes are going to change without them (Horcoff)

Yeah, but what do we do when everyone's healthy? Play him on the 3rd line? This team still has trouble keeping the puck out its own net, not sure how Hemmer in a checking role would be effective . Much rather see a trade that gets us Colin Greening or someone like him to help Gordon.
If we were to keep Hemsky, it would have to be because we traded Ebs or Yak. And that's kinda like my butthole, I just can't see it.

Meuller is terrible. More fragile than Hemsky. But let me guess-good possession stats?

Didn't at any point say Ference would be. Your point was that EDM needs D depth. How does having Smid, Ference, Belov, Grebeshkov and maybe Klefbom on the left side mean that they don't have depth? N Schultz is a #5D. He's overpaid and EDM has 2 other D that could take his job for $2M less.

horcoff and N schultz had too high of cap hits which didn't allow a lot of wiggle room to build up the rest of the roster. Not because Horcoff or N Schultz suck. Don't know which oiler fans you've been talking to.

True and yes. But I'm thinking if RNH is out for a month, it'd be helpful to have a top 6C to cushion his absence.

it's not about chasing guys we feel are uselles out of town.
its about cap management.
no one wanted horcoff replaced with a kid. and neither does anyone want Schultz gone in favour of klefbom before we know what we have in him.

we got a guy who we think can be an admirable replacement, is more physical and saved 2.5 mil.

as far as Shultz, I don't hate him even though he is pretty terrible. but at present he's prob our 5th best dman, so we'll wait. but if we can find someone to fill his role (which isn't too difficult) at 2 mil less, you do it
