What do you guys think of the Sabres drafting Reinhart and the Flames drafting Ekblad? In other words, who do you favor? |

Feasters/Wiesbrod Flames Drafting
2011
Sven Baertschi
Marcus Granlund
Tyler Wotherspoon
John Gaudreau
Laurent Brossoit
-VERY good draft for Jay Feaster and Jon Weisbrod
2012
Mark Jankowski
Patrick Sieloff
Jon Gillies
Brett Kulak
Ryan Culkin
Coda Gordon
Mathew Deblouw
-Not quite as good, Jankowski has a ton of raw potential, Sieloff looks to me like an warrener type nhler, but Jon Gillies is easily our best prospect out of that draft.
2013
Sean Monahan
Emile Poirier
Morgan Klimchuk
Keegan Kanzig
Eric Roy
Tim Harrison
Rushan Rafikov
John Gilmour
-Top side of the draft looks good, Harrison and Kanzig were pleasant surprises at the rookie camp |

It doesnt look all that bad actually. Some actual decent forard depth imo. Though backlund and glencross are far from 1st line players.
If you're going for full rebuild, I would trade cammerelli.
Retain half his salary (cause flames are rich and dont need the cap space anyhow) to get something of real value from a team. Adding cmmerelli at half his salary ould be something alot of teams would want to do.
Best of luck! hope you guys can turn it around sooner than later!

I agree with most of this, but people need to realize - the Flames are in the second year of a full rebuild. They moved out their bigger assets and make their club younger...they are looking to continue on this path for another year/two until guys like Baertschi become their next biggest asset, slowly followed by recent draft picks. Its going to take awhile but Feaster and managnment have only really just begun and they spent the last two years working at fixing mistakes left behind by the previous managment group.
Keep in mind...when Feaster took over this club they had guys like Iginla and Kipper nearing the end of their careers and hardly any prospects to speak of. In just two years they have acquired several (and I mean several) young prospects and draft selections to make up for it. Now they must try to compete with what is left and hope their prospects develop to their fullest potentials.
Feaster appears that his goal is to keep tweaking his roster until he gets all the pieces he wants. He's got a ways to go...theres no denying it. - Colin Dambrauskas
ummmm how are we in our second year of a rebuild
this will be the FIRST year....iggy and jaybo were just traded last year at the deadline
last year they were still trying to compete...that's why they tried to offer sheet ROR, to come in and make a push for the playoffs...when it was clear there was no playoffs, there was a selloff...This will be the first full year of rebuild mode

As long as Feaster is the GM.... Good Luck! He didnt win the Cup for tampa. He took over when the team was already built and then completely dismanteled that team and made them losers again. and now look at you guys. Feaster is horrible
Feaster also has a horrible draft record, look up the draft picks he made for tampa. They have all collectively played maybe a total of 10 NHL games. |

Teams have players ranked all over the place and are sometimes far from the consensus. Winnipeg has a history the last few years of going off the board too. Not too many people slagging them for the Trouba pick right now though. As I said. Wait a few years down the road before you claim victory. - Iggysbff
Jets? well they've now got a future that consists of Kane, Schiefele, and Bogosian because of their drafting, I'll grant feaster Baertschi though, he looks like the real deal...I was actually hoping the Flames would be a little better than they are now...I'm glad the Canucks are in a newly formed pacific division...I was getting bored of seeing them steamroll teams in the regular season and then getting steamrolled by the real good teams, it wasn't a good time...at first I thought it was good hockey during regular season...but no...for the most part they were riding momentum from beating bottom of the barrel teams like Calgary...So hopefully Feaster gets his thumb out of his ass eventually...cause right now that franchise is a mess |

Don't rush Monahan, put Stajan on the 1st line. |

I agree. Last years draft compared to this years draft is certainly night/day. I just feel these next two years are so critical that I would at least entertain the notion of bringing in someone with a better track record. Hopefully for the Flames sake he drafts like he did in 2013 and not 2012 - steve362
At the end of the 2012 draft, Bob McKenzie gave CGY a grade of A-. I would say that's pretty good. It was a weak draft so most draftees from that year are projects. |

Your opinion....in my opinion last year was year one of the rebuild in that they realized early enough that they were not a contending team and started to make phone calls/trades. Im sure the process begun much earlier then when said players were moved, it just takes time for other teams to make it work too. |

Im sure the Flyers have something to worry about as well...to have iced the rosters they had and not find success kinda, well, sucks. Especially seeing how the Flyers have been cup-less since 75 |

Aren't we technically still in the 1st year? Since the trade deadline last year. |

David Jones is going to be a top 6 winger, maybe put on the third line.
I don't see Monohan making the team this year. Calgary is probably better off letting him have another year of junior.
Horak isn't a 4th line type centre, but Blair Jones is. - james
I completely agree that Jones will be given every opportunity for top 6 minutes. I also agree with Monahan being left in junior for another year, aside from a few games at the start.
I think a lot of people are forgetting about Bouma. He was built for the 4th line. |

To be fair, last year they had no shot with all the injuries.
Ignore the trolls. I personally like what Feaster has done.
People swear there is some science to drafting. The book is still out on most of his picks, but Feaster has been finding value in latter rounds in the past few drafts. A few of these guys are gonna be players, it's inevitable. If a few of them are gamers, than troll comments like that will eventually be scarce.

I actually don't attribute our good drafting since 2011 to Feaster. I think John Weisbrod has really turned the page on it.
Every single player from the 2011 draft looks to have a shot at making the NHL, if not on the bubble. The 2012 draft still has lots of question marks as well as the 2013. |

At least I don't have to worry about you guys getting McDavid in 2 years, even if feaster was 1st up, he wouldn't choose him with his drafting record - annoyance_101
Uhhhhhhh........he did draft Stamkos when given the chance. Dumb comment. |

They just need to stick to a plan. Build and continue to build. Sign key guys when you have the chance, but don't be stupid and just sign for the sake of signing. If they stick to this, they will see results eventually. |

I agree that its pretty much Weisbrod running the draft. Feaster has already said that is not good at scouting and that he lets his scouting team do most of the work. I think they are grooming Weisbrod to take over the GM role if his new implemented draft strategy looks like its going to pay off in the next couple of years.
Just for note Weisbrod was not with the flames for the 2011 draft. That was Todd Button and i read an article that year that said that Feaster pretty much had Todd run the draft.

I can't take anything you say serious when 'your' team is the Flyers with Paul Holmgren burning through Ed Snider's wallet.
