Actually, Bobrovsky's positioning was actually a weak spot when he was here. He made himself small in the net. And he had to overcome that issue to improve to the level that he played at last Season.
And as far as attitude. Bryzgalov didn't handle the situation very well in terms of the play in front of him. He got spun out, and it affected him. Which was a big factor in his play here.

It makes me crazy to look back on how they tried to just "make due" on that line after Renberg was gone.

Hawerchuk did ok, as did Jones...after the Final loss, they seemed to be worried about putting all their eggs in one basket

Much better? They won 1 more round in 2003-04 than they did in 2002-03. They also had a better team, especially on defense, before the injuries really piled up
- Jsaquella

They started piling up well before the playoffs with Desjardins and Roenick suffering terrible injuries in the regular season. And they were a much better performing team in the 03-04 playoffs than the previous years, even if they only won one more round.

The guys who were supposedly "the real problem" did pretty well without Cechmanek.

I picked Ceckmanek. He was the best goalie. Not the most likable person, but the best goalie.

Boucher has played the most games, but his best season by far was '99-00 so that hurts his chances.

Also considered Biron. He was a big part of the turnaround and his end of season numbers were pretty consistent. (Not his game by game play though). He also performed well in the playoffs. I recall their series against Washington when they nearly blew a 3-1 series lead. Biron held them in game 7 when Washington just blitzed the Flyers in the 2nd and 3rd period. If the Flyers don't get that PP, I don't see how they would have won.

As resquested, the Flyers top 10 line combos

1. The LCB line: Barber-Clarke-Leach 1974-1976
In 75-76 this line put up numbers that have never been matched by any line in Flyers history and very few lines in NHL history except for those with Gretzky or Lemieux. 140 goals! Leach scored 61 times; Clarke had 89 assists and 118 points and Barber chipped in 50 goals and 112 points. Clarke won his 3rd Hart trophy and both he and Barber were 1st team all stars, Leach had to settle for being a 2nd team all star, finishing behind only Guy Lafleur.

2. The Legion of Doom: Leclair-Lindros-Renberg 1995-1996
Physically dominant, this line was virtually unstoppable during the 1995 lockout season and the 1st half of 95-96 prior to Renberg's injury. All 3 were highly skilled and it was basically impossible to stop their cycle down low. There were many games where they simply looked like men against boys.

3. Propp-Poulin-Kerr mid 80s
Great combo of skill, size and smarts, the best line of the Keenan era

4. Leclair-Lindros-Recchi
Didn't get to play together much and Leclair was already past his peak, but this could still dominate from time to time and was a great combo of size and skill

5. Leclari-Lindros-Jones
Sensing a pattern yet? Lindros was just that good and when paired with Leclair htey were amazing!

6. Lonsberry-Macleish-Dornhoeffer
The 2nd best line of the Bullies era. Macleish would have been a #1 center on most teams and Lonsberry is one of the most underrated forwards in Flyers history.

7. Hartnell-Giroux-Jagr
THe addition of Jagr took Giroux to the next level.

8. Gagne-FOrsberg-Knuble
For the short time Foppa was healthy, this line was awesome!

9. Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek
Can't wait to see how this line performs with a healthy and in shape Hartnell.

10. Propp-Eklund-Tocchet

Just missed the cut:
Schultz-Kindrachk-Saleski
Barber-Clarke-Sittler
Gagne-Primeau-Recchi
Fedyk-Lindros-Rechhi
Leina-Briere-Hartnell
Propp-Linseman-Holmgren

Roenick returned for the playoffs. They added Zhamnov, Malakhov and Markova prior to the 2004 playoffs. Zhamnov with Roenick & Amonte was the best line vs NJ in round one. Malakhov & Markova were probably their most consistent defenseman. Primeau played far better in 2004 than he had in any playoff year, before or after.

When the team scores 2 goals in 5 games, like the Flyers did in Cechmanek's 2nd year, then it ain't the goalie

It was a huge difference between those 3 and the inconsistent play the year before, especially from Amonte

He should... but my concern is that people would look at what he did for Columbus last year rather than in his one year as a Flyers semi-starter.
- bmeltzer

I voted for Bob, for like any of these goalies on the list, you have to look at determining factors (playoffs, off-ice issues, hot-cold streaks). I think the only thing that Columbus showed was what he could have done had we kept him. As much as he had struggles he was also dominant for stretches with us as well. The style adjustments made as he went to Columbus happened so fast, I have to believe he was working on that style change before he was traded that summer. In anycase, if I had to make a second pick, it be for Boucher.

The only possible solution to this problem would be to deflect their gaze with Ville Leino's 2010 playoff beard.

They're not horrible, but few of them are really bona fide number one guys. They're guys you can win with, but except in a few instances-like Biron vs the Habs in 2008-they're not guys who will be the driving force behind those wins.

To be fair, they have had a lot more success when they have gone with the "just a guy" route than when they've tried to get a "stud"

This route is known as "Osgood Boulevard" in Detroit.
