It was ugly.. after he signed that big deal.. Gluckstern & Milstean wanted him traded to the Rags for cash.... remember? Milstean also wanted Dolan to help finance a new NVMC as part of the deal.

MM wouldnt trade him to the rags and got back a very salary friendly package from the kings.

My biggest regret about Ziggy was that we never got to see him play on Turgeon's wing.. I think we would have seen pure magic. But f'in Maloney traded Turgeon before that could ever happen.

These are the things I try to forget. Maloney dismantled that team after we got swept by the rags. That was a good team even though they didnt look it in that series.

I actually wrote a letter to NHL headquarters in NYC asking them not to allow the trade for cash.
I loved watching Ziggy play. (I have a Ziggy signed puck)

Unfortunately Turgeon was never the same player after the Hunter cheap shot.

That was crazy. It was so late and so blatant it was like some over-the-top thing a movie villain would do.

I have decided to try something different and make a blog that is totally interactive. I'm asking you guys the questions, i'll give my thoughts then its up to you to provide the answers which should; if I know you guys; spark a "healthy" debate.

1: How concerned are you with the goalie situation?

2: Will we see the Kyle Okposo and Josh Bailey that we saw the last half of 12/13?

3. Which prospects have the best chance of making the team?

4. How will the defense pan out with losing Mark Streit?

- NYI78

1- not too concerned for this year, but one of these kids has to step up soon, or else our GM will have to go out and get us a solid, long-term goalie, going forward.

2- They can't take half the season to get going again this year; this is the only concern I have. I'm hoping Okposo has finally "got it" and will be the beast he should be. If Bailey can play solid up and down a third line wing, that's fine with me.

3. As it stands now, Donovan or de Haan HAVE TO make the team, and HAVE TO be very good, or else we're screwed. Up front, I have to assume that Nelson is ready at this point.

4. I still don't like this defense, and I hope they do something to address it- this has nothing to do with Streit....I wouldn't have liked the defense with him still here, either...

1: How concerned are you with the goalie situation?

Not concerned at all. Nabby will be fine with a lighter workload & Poulin will get every opportunity to show he is ready for the show. (I personally think Poulin is our back-up of the future.. he will get great training this year)

2: Will we see the Kyle Okposo and Josh Bailey that we saw the last half of 12/13?

Yes, we will see alot of each... but I think the old versions will rear their heads at times to worry us.

3. Which prospects have the best chance of making the team?

Nelson is most ready but where does he fit... I dont think its his time yet for that reason.

de Haan & Donovan have the best shots of making it out of camp.

4. How will the defense pan out with losing Mark Streit?

Its going to be better without him, but still not anything to write home about... I think it will be capable but lacking.

I think nelson fits as the third line center

I agree but there is already a third line center signed for the team... hence no room.

Bailey-Nielsen-Okposo
Grabner-Regin-Clutterbuck
Martin-Cizikas-McDonald

where does he fit? keep him up as a healthy scratch? that doesn't help his development at all.

Fack Regin. If he holds up the progression of one of these kids. Depth player, that is all he is unless one of them is not ready.

Love Ziggy but lets be real a second... Even as a life long Islander his jersey wouldn't be in the rafters without hardware backing it up or a HoF induction which wont happen.

As for MM trading him away.. He never wanted to trade him... That was ALL ownership.

Not sure about that.

Had Ziggy and La Fontaine played their entire or most of their careers on LI & were elected to the HH of F. I'd bet the farm that they would have their jerseys retired.

I dont know the answer to this question but maybe you can answer it. Since you say its a pre requisite to win the Cup in order to have your Jersey hung and # retired.

Is every Retired Players number. From all the teams in the NHL. Only from players who won the Cup for their Team?

Not a Bruins fan but I believe Ray Bourque's jersey is hung from the rafters and I dont think he won a Cup with Boston. Maybe there are others.

Although I believe it will happen. Its no given that we will win the Stanley Cup during his tenure.

So Lets refresh this conversation in 12-15 yrs from now when JT retires.

I believe that Nelson will fill the role of that 3rd line center and that Peter Reign will be the healthy scratch. That being said, with Nelson occupying the role as a 3rd line center, I like the lines you propose

I have seen regin play a lot....his numbers are deceiving...he has a lot of talent but can never stay healthy..at worst he is a good depth player to have

No not all retired numbers are from cup winning players, but most are... the exceptions are in the HoF, or lead the retiring team in some kind of stat. Ziggy never won the cup with anyone, he won no major awards, he doesnt lead the Isles in any category... If his career stats were all with the Isles, He would be third all time in goals, Third in Assists, 9th in games played & 4th in total points.. impressive numbers but not number retiring worthy.

Ray Bourque leads the Bruins in Games played, Assists, Points & is 4th in goals. and he won a few awards while with the Bruins 5 Norris?

Id rather see Nelson on the team, but Snow gave Regin a 1way contract for a reason.

To be honest id rather see Nelson as the second line center and move Franzy to the third line.
