I wonder how many points it will take to make the playoffs in the East next year as one of the wild card teams.

No idea. I'm not a fan of the playoff scheme they cooked up.

Well no one on this thread has ever been guilty of over estimating the Flyers chances.

I'm not either. I saw someone, somewhere saying yesterday it could take 97 points for one of the western teams to make the playoffs (which I took with many grains of salt), which prompted me to start thinking about what it might take for the Flyers to make the playoffs.

Right off the bat, looking at the makeup of the division I have to ask myself who is the weak sister in the division? Jersey? Carolina? Flyers? Islanders? Next question, is Columbus for real? Followed by, will the Rangers plummet to the bottom half of the division? And then, which Fleury will be in net for the Pens next year, the good one or the bad one?

Honestly, I think there's at least a fair chance the Flyers don't make the playoffs next year either, considering the number of question marks there are right now.

Agreed. I don't like going back to having to play the same three teams in the first two rounds year after year. They were the worst playoff years ever. I couldn't get any motivation to watch Montreal and Boston knock out the Whalers in the first round every season.

The unbalanced conferences still bug me. Where are they going to find 2 more teams out west? The romoured expansion into Toronto and Quebec just makes thing worse unless they anticipate moving Florida and Tampa there and charging a billion dollars in relocation fees.

Hey man... I think there's still 20 or 40 of his OPC rookie cards that I don't own yet. I remember that full set went for $100 when it came out. That was outrageous money at the time. Was worth it for the Kushner card alone. It's done nothing but increase in value.

It's well over a buck now!!!!

It's very possible they miss the playoffs. It's going to be interesting to see how the teams handle the new travel and divisional rivals, an if short season success can transfer into the same kind of play in an 82 game year.

They're talking about the BoG voting on adding a team in Seattle. NOT MOVING a team to Seattle. Adding a team. They are so stupid it's just mindboggling.

there was an article somewhere on the net yesterday about the NHL expanding into Seattle for 14/15. I didnt read it and now I dont remember where I saw it (because I'm getting old and senile), and we all know that Quebec is in the process of building an arena, so perhaps the days of imbalanced conferences are numbered in small digits.

edit: it was PuckDaddy. Bleacherreport also had related articles

They are also very predictable.

When they published the new divisions, they were practically telling everyone expansion is nigh, IMO.

With a likely $150mm+ expansion fee....more likely $200mm...of course they want to expand.

On paper, sure.

I think there's upside and I think most of that upside is on how BSchenn and Couturier contribute this year.

A bunch of things could go right. Mason could be better, or Emery could be good and healthy. The team as a whole could be healthier than last year. Coots and B Schenn could take that next step along their learning curve. The problem is, any or all of these things might also go wrong.

I'll feel better in October, when we have an actual opening day roster to look at.

Is that the 90-91 OPC Premier that had the Jagr, Mogilny, and Fedorov RCs? There were a ton of counterfeit's of those 3. Not sure about the Kushner though.

Why they let Phoenix sit and waste away for more than two seasons is beyond me. Now they're locked in for another 5 years? Is 5 years going to make a difference to Glendale? Fans there still have to think that team is moving. Fringe fans aren't going to jump in with both feet.

I'm convinced that having a hockey team in Phoenix is to Gary Bettman what continuing to fund the WNBA is to David Stern.

They both know it's a losing proposition and they just can't let it go.

You can get the whole factory set today for $30. They were almost impossible to get when they came out. The run was so limited dealers were eventually charging close to $500 for a sealed set.

That's when I decided to get out of the whole card thing. That set right there... I was done.
