I dont see a point in calling up McIlrath to be a healthy scratch, he needs all the ice time he can get to keep progressing. Rather just keep Johnson up to be a healthy scratch.
Pyatt likely wont be scratched, Im sure AV wants to see him on the ice and see if he is anything like the player he once saw on the Nucks.
Im also curious to see if AV tests out a USA line...

yeah, McIlrath only has 45 pro games under belt after coming back from his knee injury last year. He needs full time, top pairing minutes in Hartford. |

Would Sather deal Del Zotto and Boyle (or Pyatt) for a mid-6 forward and/or a pick to open roster and cap space (about 4.2M depending on who you trade--Boyle or Pyatt)?

I think dz is here to stay. I think he's gonna have an explosive season offensively under av. He's really gonna take a step forward imo if he can stay playing second line minutes and doesn't get burned out playing 24 mins a game. |
|
|
|
Plus if u waive him, chances are he will be picked up by a team that could use his style at only $1.55. Then it's all gone. - xcheckmajor
I don't think he gets picked up. Asham and powe weren't and they had even cheaper deals and brought more than pyatt. |

No one picked up anyone because it was the first week of Summer. It'll be different when its closer to the season starting and teams have a better idea what they are missing on the their rosters as well as if players aren't starting healthy. At that time, Asham Powe and Pyatt could become very attractive for a team needing to add some 4th line grit or replace an injured player. |

Yeah, I didn't like that idea either. Falk or Johnson would be better, but McIlrath just gives us a little more cap flexibility. I was thinking to let him play the first 4-5 games of the season, you can always send him down and still slide his ELC. That will give more flex if there is need for another forward to be called up. |

I disagree. The deep into the summer you get and the more set teams' rosters become imo. it becomes especially more difficult for a player like powe or asham or pyatt to get claimed when teams can just fill those 4th line spots for cheaper within their own system. Plus there are still ufas out there. Besides clowe and clarkson and 1 or 2 other deals, gms have been very stingy and we've seen the effect of a lower salary cap. What gm is gonna want an oversized traffic cone for 1.5 mil to play on the 4th line when they could use a kid in their system or sign a remaining ufa for cheaper? I think we're stuck with these guys but at least its just 1 more year.
I mean the devils had to just get rid of tallinder for free and hes actually a serviceable 2nd pairing dman. |

We had to trade for Powe during the season in order to address a need for a defensive PKer that we couldn't address from within. I think no one picked up anyone earlier because they had no idea what their rosters would need. There was still UFA, still training camp for the kids, etc... Some teams don't know what their missing until after training camp. They don't know if they need a PK specialist because no one stepped up to the task. The same could be said about trading Asham Powe Pyatt. The point I'm making is, their cap hits are bad on OUR team, but not particularly bad on any team that has cap space available. A team can call up a kid and rush his development to be a 4th line grinder or penalty killer, possibly be a liability on the ice, or they can use an extra $500K of capspace and get someone like Powe for example. Thats what we did because we didn't have anyone to service that need and we didn't realize we were lacking that need until we were into the season.
Not every team thinks like us or is in the same position. Our problem is the Cap because we have a strong amount of quality players. Some other team's problem could be grit or size, or penalty killing, or fighting or enforcing. They could have plenty of capspace and a veteran may seem more appealing than an unproven prospect. |

Yea u have a point i just get the feeling that the deeper you get into the summer, the more set rosters generally become. Theres been zero activity for a while now throughout the league and it looks like its gonna keep up that way. |

IMO training camp is when clubs will be interested in Boyle and/or Pyatt. Right now most teams might feel good about their club but might change their minds once they lose someone to injury or some kids they expected to make the team struggle. It happens ever year and when that does happen some clubs might be on the lookout for a player like Boyle or Pyatt. |
