Bargain city. Same with McDonagh. Sather must have some goons threatening to break agents' legs or something. |

I think it may be more of a "you guys saw what happened to Chicago right? Had to blow up the whole team" type situation and the players are smart enough to understand that keeping the core with the potential to win multiple cups is more important than say an extra 500k a year that you can make up with endorsements etc.
I think Pyatt is gone, only because Boyle is a fan favorite and slats is still chasing for his 2003 draft fix due to he who shall not be named... |

He ain't one of my favorites, I'd love to see him and Pyatt moved. |

Boyle is just a real frustrating player. He has his flashes here and there where he makes you think he can be so much better than he is, but more often than not, he's just kind of disappointing. I think he is a way more useful player than Pyatt, however, if it comes down to a choice between the two (although Boyle would actually bring a return). |

I'd keep Pyatt for the year, he's not making much. If I were Sather, I'd be putting everything I can into extensions because you don't want your players to start the season with everyone saying "pending UFA, Lundquist" or "pending UFA, Callahan". Its just a distraction. |

Also I'd look into trading Staal to Carolina since he's gunna bolt there in two years anyway. Might as well try to get a good return while he's still under contract. |

Players playing for huge contracts can also be highly motivated. Generally, I agree with you, but players in sports often times have their best years when they are playing for a contract.

3 million left to sign Stepan if you send Asham down to the minors.
I feel your pain, the Leafs have 4.825 left to sign Kadri and Franson |

I think the Rangers have a few guys who they can easily get rid of in a pinch in addition to Asham (like Powe, Boyle, Pyatt) to make more cap space.
I don't know who the Leafs can get rid of though |

Not many. Liles or Phaneuf. We may be forced to trade Franson while his value is high, which would probably open a spot for Morgan Rielly. We have enough D depth to send him to the World Juniors either way I would think.
Signing Stepan and ditching Asham puts you at 14 forwards. So, yeah that'll work. I think you already waived Powe too.
Removing powe and Asham puts you a shade under 4.2. He won't take any lower than that on a long term deal, it's going to have to be a bridge |

Here is Gross on the Stepan situation. I don't love the idea of a bridge deal in this situation, but I understand the need for it. I just wish they could wrap up Stepan long term, and not have to worry about another negotiation in two years, when I think his value will be much higher. |

Rumors still running rampant about Phaneuf, or have they cooled a little? He's obviously a big ticket guy that will be hard to move in a year when the cap is going down, but still an attractive player if the price is right. |
