for Gretzky in his prime? If I were running the Oilers right now and Gretzky was in his prime, you could not give me a $100 mill to trade him...he was that valuable...I didn't follow what happened to loyal oilers fans and their attendance through out that trade...before and after...but it couldnt have been that pretty - annoyance_101
Dark days. Mid 90s weeded out the fair weathers. Late 90s proved their was still many loyal to the team and not Gretz. Damn near lost them. Pocklington was essentially run out of town. |

Tell me about it. Crews think youre sitting in your truck pulling it when youre on the phone with high level guys, occasionally boardroom level, about decisions that can cost millions. Wont deny, Im (frank)ing tired. - sanfordnson
Yup. I'm a project manager for major health care infrastructure projects. You got to wear a tie one minute and work boots the next. Two different works. Two different approaches. It's hard to gain credibility in both worlds.
Saying that, I always joke that the definition of project management is "delegate then celebrate". |

Theres not enough money in the hockey world, that could get me to give up the best player to ever play the game...especially only 15 mill, to a hockey club now a days, thats pocket change...even back then...it wasnt enough |

My days doing jobs for CNRL were the worst. Their executives are ruthless and heartless and understand next to nothing about practicalities on the ground level. I actually worked in Tunisia for 3 months just to get out of my agreement with them. Companies like Shell and Husky are a lot more professional, if lumberingly inefficient. |

I just googled as to why Pocklington did that and its because he needed money badly...uhhh.......so you (frank) up your only good business venture for a momentary fix? Someone needed to have that guy checked into a psych ward |

I only watched the Kings when I was a kid because of Gretzky...I can't stand him as a person (and yes I've met him in Whistler one year) but his on ice talents were just amazing...I was just getting into hockey when the Oilers were a dynasty, but I've watched their games from back then...he was a fun player to watch...no amount of money could make me trade him if i were the oilers management...he was literally worth everything to that franchise... - annoyance_101
Totally agree. but it was 1988 and $15m was a lot of money then. That money probably represented a major percentage of a NHL's profits back then.
Today, Gretzky is a franchise player. They are apply named. It's like penguins trading Crosby. it just won't happen because it would be franchise suicide. |

Funny. I was looking for something funny on Youtube about single guys who own cats but got sidetracked into some really disturbing videos of American police shooting dogs.
Cops arrest bad guy.
Bad guy's dog doesn't like that.
Dog decides to take matters into it's own paws.
Cops shoot dog.
Dog doesn't die right away.
I hate Youtube for what it makes me watch. |

agreed, Especially when it involves animal cruelty or police brutality.
I had to put down my 5 year old kitty last week. I swear, It may have been the toughest loss ive ever experienced. Regardless of whether they are human or not.
Anyone who treats pets like there scum of the earth should permanently placed behind bars. Makes me fukking sick. |

Starting to sound more and more like Lack could be our number one.......
If Lou actually doesn't report to camp, I want gillis' head on a stick.
How could he possibley trade away Schneider without consulting Lou first. Guy is a friggin moron.

It would be worse for the Penguins if they traded crosby...they'd likely never recover...they were basically a dead franchise before he got there |

You got Lack will be our number 1 out of that article? What part of nearly impossible to trade now that the salary cap is going down...retirement not being an option, and him wanting to be starting goaltender for the olympics did you not read? He will report for those very reasons...This will not be a Bure situation...IF he has a strong olympics, canucks will be lucky to get an early 2nd for him...also he's not going to accept a trade to just anywhere... |

Well, since he stated that he was going to be in camp and was preparing to be a Canuck, I'm pretty sure that's already far and away a conclusion. Safer bet than a Leaf fan trolling the board tomorrow, I'd say.
