Insulting offer? It was what was required as per the cba.

ok maybe im mistaken. i thought that was the minimum offer. they couldn't have offered a one-way deal?

one thing i don't get is... why did the Leafs not offer him a one-way deal from the start? guy played 45 games last year on D. seems like he earned a one-way deal at the very least. $2 million is obviously crazy but the Leaf offer seems a bit insulting.
- DoubleDown

Maybe they want to go to Arby so they can dump Liles in September.

Only if we can move Phaneuf for a #1 Center does it make any sense. We are thin on centers with skill as it is. And then it probably doesnt make sense

Example
Sean Coutourier and Seth jones vs Phaneuf, Kadri and Rielly

- senstroll

A) that would be trading Pa-neuf to a rival...no thanks
B) when did Couturier become a number center?

And I'm saying that there is a non-compliance buyout window after the arbitration period is over for teams that went through an arbitration; it begins end of August/early September.
- gravyface

48 hr window to walk away?

Seemed like you were in favor, saying we should do this trade.

I think you missed posting a laughie with your original post.

dunno if qualifying offer has to be 2-way? I dunno.

but ya not like he'll ever play for the marlies anyway. If he signed 1-way, 2 yr $900k per and they waived him he would get claimed anyway.

he's never made more than $660k. $885k is what it is because it's arbitration. It's a lot closer than his $2M number.

Honestly 2 yrs, $900k per 1-way should have been done long ago.

On a qualifying offer to retain his rights they are required to offer last years deal 10%.

All that first offer was was to retain his rights. A formality.

What if the NHL just had guaranteed contracts, if you don't play to the level of your contract, see ya.

No proof of either occuring.
With or without Blowzak, who's to say Phil wont resign?

- Fakepartofme

ya I think he was staying either way.

nobody's walking away from 8 yrs $8M per on a team that's winning. And he likes it here.

He certainly wasn't going to let Bozak choose which team he plays for the rest of his career.

but people love their storylines, so this is what gets talked about

this one does seem like it could have been avoided...

Gunnarson on other hand would have gotten an award above $3.5M, so that they could walk away from (though no Gunnarson next year would be bad IMO, would have solved the cap issue)

No.
With the foolishness of the NHL GM's...that would be a total mess.
Players would be overpaid like crazy.

ok, i got that part. but then, the Leafs could have still made another offer no? just saying that if they expected the guy to sign a 2-way deal, they were nuts, because as dime-a-dozen as he is, he proved last year that he could be an effective third-pairing guy, and that's easily worthy of a one-way deal.

That's right - no proof, but speculation. That's what we do here, we speculate.

Given that he's only 20something, I'd be very surprised if he resigned.
