I like the pairings personally, a healthy gunnar back beside dion, and gardiner and franson on pairing 2. Let training camp sort out 5 & 6. - mykokes

all good, i get it now, thanks. - big_dion
For sure!
But my point is that had they known that Fraser would elect arbitration they may have let him go to UFA. He'll get awarded a one year deal and unless he significantly improves he will be replaced by Holzer the following season. I just hope the Leafs don't (frank) themselves trying to retain him. |

nah...
you will take him, we will keep $1M in salary, and you give us some scrub you don't want with a $1M or less cap hit.

....Assuming Fraser and the Leafs reach a deal before Tuesday, it will likely be in the neighborhood of $1 Million per season, on par with Martinez and Muzzin’s deals and the amount that Toronto signed veteran blueliner Paul Ranger to last week.
That would leave around $4.5 Million left under the salary cap to sign restricted free agents Cody Franson and Nazem Kadri.... - mikeinbuffalo
Actually, it would leave $5,170,833, according to Capgeek, and, since signing Franson would give them 8 defensemen on the roster, Holzer would be going down, which would add .788 to the total available, bringing it up to $5,958,333.

I'm still a little surprised they never tried moving Grabo to Kadri's wing around mid-season when it became obvious Kadri needed top 6 minutes, and Grabo wasn't benefitting from a checking role.
kept them together on the PP all year, and that clearly worked... why not make them a line?
then go Komarov-McClement-Kulemin as 3rd?
never made sense to me. - Big_Lightnin
well this is where i blame carlyle.
he did a lot right in the season but he also made a few really really stupid mistakes if you ask me.
gardiner spent too much time in the presser.
grabo was totally mis managed, no wonder he had 0 value by the end.
took half the half season for him to get those D pairings set on the PP, god it was painful.
what hurt the most was randy's coaching in the game 7, he mise well have just went to the locker room after the 2nd and stayed in there...what a joke that was. no time out? wtf was he thinking...he wasnt, that was just such a rookie coach mistake, actually it wasnt, even a rookie coach would have been smart enough to call a time out at 4-2. that still baffles me, i will never understand that.
now im all fired up again lol |

Henrik Lundqvist was drafted 205th overall the same year that Rick DiPietro went 1st overall. goalies are the hardest players to judge in their draft years. - DoubleDown
Are you suggesting Henrik is better then Ricky D?
I understand its different for goalies being drafted. I just like to think that Bernier was drafted that high because he does have the skill and intangibles to become a #1 goalie. The Leafs need that true #1 goalie that we've been lacking since the cujo and belfour days.

Ranger Fraser could be a nice 3rd pairing, give the kids more time to develop (blacker/reilly). I just hope...we don't see Holzer in a Leafs uniform at any point this season |
