I could see Bernier being the starter by game 20. I like Reimer but there is a reason Bernier was drafted 11th overall and Reims was 99th, in the same draft.
Unless Bernier really faulters, i think its his net to lose already - TonkaPhaneuf
Draft position has very little to do with these two now that they've both earned something resembling a full-time job.
Now it's a case of put up or shut-up |

I don't even think we'd notice the difference if Fraser was on the team or off it. Average 3rd pairing dman. Meh. |

I wonder mate, if Bernier fails to steal it from Reimer (Let's just leave out a Halak/Elliot thing where both are playing well and nobody is really stealing it), is he still worth a "bunch of picks/prospects." That would mean he's failed to steal the number one from two teams and is turning 25.
It's hypothetical of course. Just have to wonder, goalies usually don't net the best returns even if they are dominating. It's kind of nice to have two young goalies coming off strong seasons though for once. Instead of injury concerns and false promises of returning to 2006 forms or whatever. - AdamFrench
Depends on what the market is for goalies at the time. There could be a lot of goalie movement over the next year or so.
In the end, if there's not real cap-squeeze, then it's a nice problem to have over the next couple years |

I still dont get why he doesnt get picked. For couple years, he played good in the exhibition games and plays on the right side, which the leafs need more guys like, so puzzled why he can't make the team on the 3rd pairing He never gets the chance |

I'm not so sure about splitting up, Gardiner lacks size, Franson lacks the skating. I find the less you have Franson move the puck the more effective he is. he knows where he has to be on the breakout or to back his partner up and he's a solid option in qbing the play in the offensive zone once the puck is in the zone. Gardiner made Franson's job easier, he skated the puck out of danger.....the obvious shortcoming is when we're hemmed in our own zone, but during the playoffs I found Franson rarely got tired playing with Gardiner because he didn't have to skate as much, and was more likely to be physical because he wasn't tired. meh, we'll just have to see in training camp if what they did against boston can be carried over. - mykokes
If Franson is going to play against a higher caliber of talent this year he'll need to be paired with a skater (better than Fraser) IMHO. So Gardiner is definitely worth a look. |

We will miss his fighting, but would he even fight after the puck to the head? |

Remember Burke...ugg.
Once Jonas' heart problems are done he will dominate!
Toskala had an off year he's still a number one in the NHL!
He had his great moments and his...shove a sock down his throat moments. |

Like I said before our high shots against were due to Reimer's inability to control rebounds they drop this year with Johnny B - Yeti1181
The thing with Reimer is that when he broke into the league, his rebound control was one of the things I really liked about his game.
If he can rediscover that, then we're in business |

They will use the pairing from the playoffs, gardiner and franson like you said. They played really good together when fraser was gone |

Jonas was pursued by many teams leading up to signing in toronto. Too bad health problems got in the way.
Toskala actually had a decent first year in toronto. It's just too bad he was always injured and kinda lazy. |

In all honesty thats probably the case, the one thing I like is that you have a regular who can fight, not like Orr and Mclaren who play 4 min a night.
We have to start having prospects who can step up and replace players like Fraser and even Franson, its about time we start mixing in draft picks, we keep and develop them for a reason. they provide cheap depth so we dont have to pay 4 mill for every player.

Nonis' biggest (frank) up was not being able to shop grabo or liles before the season ended or before they used both buy outs....or simply in grabo's case before they totally ruined his worth. jesus christ.
i dont care if you trade colborne or ashton or some other plug, but this...this is brutal...
if we lose franson because of this....(frank) me running. |

ya he was one of Best D in camp 2 and 3 years ago. Didn't have a good camp last year and they showcased Gardiner ahead of him year before.
injuries too. But I expect he gets a good look in preseason this year, and that should take care of it.
guy has all the tools, and needs to play with better players to be effective.
He's gonna catch a few guys too - hits like a truck. |

meh -worst case scenario they trade Franson for excellent return.
...well on 2nd though I suppose worst case is they sign him for $5M per and he doesn't play like last year...
there was simply no trade market for Grabo or Liles prior to July 5th - nobody would tie up that kind of cap space before they knew the market or how they did.

Really puzzled by this as well, if horcoff can be dumped to dallas for free, why couldn't liles or grabo right? |
