Now I'm not saying one or the other but we all hear of these almost trades and quite honestly I think the Devils didn't give up all that much for him. There's also the rumor that the Gillis had a boner for the kid they drafted at nine so that could've been the deal breaker? I'd guess that Snow probably threw our fifteenth and Nino out there? See it's a debatable thing bcs I'm happy with Pulock(though I wanted Zhardov) and I'm estatic about Clutterbuck. Just a little uncomfortable with our goaltending. Didn't think it was a disastrous offseason by any means but if we could've some how kept Nino, drafted Zhardov, got Schneider, and obtained Clutterbuck I would've been really happy . All kidding aside it's one of those things where you can't be unhappy either way. If we lose a ton of games bcs of our goaltending or lose a round due to it we can have a gripe.

Oh I know hence why I said it's debatable and then stated afterward if it even would've been the right thing to do anyway? Quite a few horrible signings this year. As Keaner stated earlier sometimes the best moves are the ones that are never made. I don't disagree, especially this offseason. I'm guessing that Clarkson is going to need some serious therapy by the time his second year rolls around in Toronto? The next Komiserak...

I liked Zhardov as well but I think they have enough of those big stay at home D-Men in the system already. I'm guessing that's why they went with Pulock

Pulock was the right pick. Zadorov is an elite physical talent but big, serviceable, stay-at-home guys can be found in later rounds. Pulock's skill justified taking him for sure.

We have a couple of young bruisers in the system in Loic Leduc 6'6" 221 lbs and Doyle Somerby 6' 6" 233 lbs

Who knows what Snow offered for Schneider, but if he limited it to our first rounder, then its obvious why VAN went with NJ's offer. I really don't think Nino had that much trade value. Nino was supposedly offered in a package for Bernier, LA turned it down. If he was offered in a package for Schneider, then that deal was turned down too. The fact that Nino only brought back a third line talent should tell us all what Nino's trade value was. Does that mean Nino won't turn out to be a good player? No. But I think we have a habit of overvaluing Isles' prospects, just like fans from other teams have a habit of doing the same with their teams' prospects.

If Snow made offers to LA and VAN for goaltenders, then he recognizes the deficency in net and doesn't have all the confidence in the world in Nilsson/Poulin. I just hope the goaltending situation is ironed out sooner rather than later, whether its in-house or from outside the organization.

I was saying the same thing during free agency. Snow is about as confident as I am in our goaltending. Hopefully one of poulin or Nilsson surprises?

I agree, I think in a few years (maybe sooner) the defense will really be the strong point of this team! I say that knowing full well our offense will still include JT, Strome and so on. There is just too much talent there for it to be ingnored!

Again...this is a bad example to use. Nino to LA couldn't have worked for cap reasons. LA was very specific in what it wanted and how much money it could spend under the cap for what it wanted. Toronto's proposal, as low as the salary was, still included them having to retain some of the salary to make it work. Maybe Nino had lower trade value, maybe Snow really liked Clutterbuck. Who knows...but Nino with his cap hit, before the discussion even gets into L.A.'s need for an NHL-ready backup goaltender, was a non-starter and that has little to do with what his value may or may not have been.

He offers more than most third liners from what I've seen(honestly limited). Nino's value was not as high(I'm guessing)as I would feel it should be but I still feel this is a case of Isles fans undervaluing someone once they aren't Islanders anymore. Those trades worked out for the clubs that were making them. If the Isles offer was better for what their specific needs were whether it be cap related or otherwise they would've taken it. Didn't have the league want Clutterbuck? Thought I read that somewhere... But either way, I like the trade. I agree with you, that Clutterbuck can def offer more then a third liner at times. Plus he is a team-guy and fun to watch, especially when you have a potential line of CC-CC-MM (CCM Line ) running around the ice fustrating and hitting everything in sight.

I think it was just that they are both ready for the NHL, plus both very talented and if Snow could of gotten one of them for the right price, it would be a no brainer.
