It is not handpicking stats. We had a good shot three playoffs ago and missed by one victory. It was fun and enjoyed the ride. The next two years we were not even close. Time to forget three years ago and start building a winner again. This roster is nowhere near a winner. It is not bipolar it is a fact.
Things change and if you don't change you get left behind. Right now we are behind. Time to change. - VANTEL

Oh right, it was Gillis' ego that got in the way. Like when he requested ownership buy Luongo out. His ego did that. And when he convinced Luongo that Florida would absolutely want him eventually, despite the fact they said they didn't and they claimed to have their goalie of the future in the system already, and because he could go to Florida he should absolutely not waive his no trade clause for any other team. Yes, that was also Gillis' ego. And when he said in an interview that the problem was himself, in an attempt to shelter his player, yes that was also his massive ego! - KB3Point0
Why are you even addressing that practitioner of male juice consumption? He only ever comes in here to troll.....ignore him..... |

Actually no it's fact because they got beat out two years in a row and no significant change and maybe in fact got weaker. |

Or how bout every free agency where guys like heatley and Richards are offered more money by teams like Edmonton, Columbus and Winnipeg and turn down the money to play in more attractive markets. - kneughter
Heatley and Richards have been burdens to their teams. Maybe they're doing it out of respect to those markets. Or perhaps it's because those teams suck and they'd rather have a shot at winning. |

An ace goalie is a better centerpiece to a team thn a power forward IMHO.
Mark my words. If Schneider is playing ahead of Broduer this year, He'll be starting in Sochi - vancity787
Sure, but it doesn't increase the trade value of goalies.
You don't think Quick might get the start in Sochi? |

What if we sent our Owner to Florida to try and convince him everything would be alright? Would that make a difference? - djamon
Would you also send your coach, GM, some interns... |

NOt sure exactly what the rules in the NHL are but in the NBA you pay the tax based on where you played the game. So If the heat are playing the lakers then all the players pay tax based on the tax rates in LA. Like I said not sure what the rules in the NHL are but I am sure it is the same.
Also I think Hockey players are different than NFL and NBA guys. Hockey guys are smart educated and articulate. Living in Canada is not a bad thing like it is in the NBA. Hockey guys like the multiculturism of Canada and especially Vancouver. - Bluechip23
Tax wise it's bad to play in Vancouver. |

Im a Firm believer in when it comes to the NHL North Americans make the difference, They're fisty and dont take no shyt from nobody. We dont have a top six forward that fits that bill except Kes. And maybe I'd be a little more optimistic about our chances if our second line forward actually knew how to pass the puck. - vancity787
Well I guess that shows how much your opinion's worth. Jack squat. |

Can you please go back and tell me when I ever said that we werent a good team? I am sure those words were never written from my laptop. All im stating is that we will regress in our pt total next year because of our new division. I stated facts that back up my statement vs the 3 new teams in our division. Can we stop talking about 3 years ago. We are 1 - 8 in the last 2 seasons in the playoffs. Who cares if we finished 1st in a crappy division. We are still a good team and we were elite in 2010-2011. But the last 2 years proved we arent an elite team that is a title contender. - Bluechip23
The Blackhawks didn't make it out of the 1st round in either of the previous 2 playoffs. So no, us losing the past 2 playoffs does not prove that. It proves that we weren't good enough those 2 seasons, that is all it proves. |

You need to learn the difference between RFA and UFA. I'll give you a hint...leverage.
Also...Franson made 1.2M last year. - djamon
And I'll give you a hint about keeping your players happy so that they want to play in your organization during their prime: don'y low ball them just because you can. find a number that works for everyone.
Sure Montreal got Subban cheap for two year, but don't be shocked if he wants out as soon as he can get out and comes in guns a blazing on his next deal. |

What a load of garbage. The goaltender is the backbone of your team, How do they not have value.
Tomfoolery - vancity787
They do not have trade value. That is a fact supported by the minimal value that teams have typically received for goalies in trades.
The reason is simple, there are lots of goalies. Teams always hope they can develop their own or get one for cheap that can catch fire at the right time.
Reality. |

Well that is just wrong. Entire coaching staff replaced is a major change. Not to mention the tinkering with the lineup and re-additions of a healthy Kesler and Booth (knock on wood). |

He refused to deal Luongo last summer at the draft when all reports say he had chances to do it. Luongo had essentially waived his NTC because he just wanted the Hell out of Van. But Gillis still thought he could save face and make a "hockey trade". Even knuckleheads like me knew that would never happen, but Gillis' ego prevented him from taking the best deal on the table.
Instead he wasted a full year of the Sedins (who don't have all that many left) by creating an untenable goalie situation. That team was doomed...and that was on Gillis, IMO. You can blame the new CBA for how things had to go, but every team knew there was going to be a price for those deals, and every team knew the Cap was going to plummet this year. If Gillis didn't know that he's just stupid.
This isn't news...it's what 99% of the hockey world thinks happened. You can't spin it by saying it was Luongo driving the bus when it wasn't. Luongo didn't say he wanted out or refused to play for the Canucks until they told him that Schneider was their guy and they were going to try and trade Lu. |

Anyone know how many goalies of elite caliber have been dealt in the NHL. I have no clue? Last guy I can think of is Patrick Roy to the Avs. He is similar to Lu. Before MTL fans go nuts. I am not saying LU is Roy. Just saying thats the closest comparison to Lu I can find.
Ben Bishop got a decent return in terms of a top 6 fwd and a pick.
To Colorado
Patrick Roy
Mike Keane
To Montreal
Jocelyn Thibault
Andrei Kovolenko
Martin Rucinsky - Bluechip23
Luongo
Kipprusoff
Halak
Lehtonen
Hasek
Giguere
Rask
Vokoun
Belfour
Vernon
Bernier
Schneider
Just to name a few.

And yet Detroit has no trouble signing players. - micah555
Thats an easy argument. Detroit have been winners for 20 years. If you were guerin and had a choice between shytty edmonton to win or detroit what would you choose? Im pretty sure he eventually chose pittsburgh. |

That's actually a perk for millionaires. If your very expensive house maintains and can even increase in value, it's an asset. If you buy a mega mansion in Columbus and the housing market collapses, you just lost a bunch of money. |

Deffinitley a chance, I just think Shneiders a better goalie, and the reason Quicks looks better is because of the bigger grittier team infront of him. |

So build a winner and players will sign there. It has nothing to do with winter. Pittsburgh and Detroit are ugly cities with brutal winters, too. |
