Why would I compare that? The players Tallon drafted so far have been more impressive than the players Bowman has drafted. Qualify it however you want, its a fact. I'd be really surprised if anyone Stan has drafted turns out better than Nik Hjalmarsson
- rollpards19

BECAUSE YOU could have no brain when picking Kane first and Toews third, that is WHY!!!! A monkee with the central scouting list could have deliberated long and hard and did it, unless the monkey picked Phil Kessel...

Tallon was not the great talent evaluator EVER...many gave him credit for the GM Mike Smith picks

Tallon sheet the bed with Skille and beach to start.
and picks 7 and 10 I believe.

You are being silly to enage in an argument like this.

because you would have to wait a bit longer but starting with saad in the second and shaw in the fifth and a solid stable of gusy in the waiting you may have trouble living down this Tallon was an awesome draft guy stand or look like me when in 1997, I declared Ty Jones as the next Al Secord.....

Teravainen and Danault could be.
- DarthKane

Saad, Shaw, a flock of D-men, TT, McNeil, Danault, Clendening, too many others to list

2011 draft: McNeil, Danault, Clendening, Saad, Paliotta, Dahlbeck, Shaw, Jardine - could be the best Hawks draft of all-time but won't know for a few years

2012 draft: TT, Fournier, Travis Brown (who showed well at the prospect camp) have good chance for success in NHL

EKolb,

I used the wrong word. Should have said posted to a blog. In the future, I will never use your name nor specifically refer to you. No need to associate with you given your comment. I used the quote button. I will again, but I do not plan on commenting often. When I do, it usually is about prospects. Furthermore, the tablets that have a split screen is new and a feature some on this board may want to check out. My comment on this was spurned by a comment about using a smart phone. Smart phones are difficult to post more than a couple sentences and touching the quote button can be tricky on their small screen.

I sincerely hope the rest of your day is a good one. Best regards. No intent to upset you on the post you complained about.

Picking Jonathan Toews was the best move the organization has made in the last decade and that was Tallon.
- rollpards19

and if the IDIOT TALLON had seen Staal's name there he would have passed on Toews, TRUTH!!!

when you pick low ,1 2, 3, the chances of impact guys panning out are VERY GOOD....

Scotty Bowman told Dale to take Kruger. This was documented at that time.
- KingB

The new guys started coing in as Rocky hired Scotty (July 2008), then later McDonough etc...
Yeah, this was when both Tallon and Rick Dudley knew their time of decison control and decision power was going to committee...
Dudley said as much when he found a new job in Atlanta...

so Kruger had more to do with the connects Scotty had in sweden than the Hawk scouts there...

Is there some new, unwritten, rule that sweaters for players that are no longer on the roster must be retired, or in extreme cases destroyed?

Personally, I prefer sweaters for guys that are long gone...to pay respect for the history of the club...hence my avatar honoring the memory of the great...

...Lou Angotti.

- ArlingtonRob

Yeah and I always thought it disrespectful Reggie's (Fleming) 6 was being worn.

Bob, do you remember when Angottis was the radio color guy and he thought the mike was off and and he was f-bombing at light speed ahead of Shaw and Crawford?

I don't know the answer to this, so it is a legit question. Were you one of the group at the TDL that thought the Hawks couldn't win as then constituted?
- mohel

Nah, I wanted them to make a move to help their chances, but I always thought they had a great chance. But I'm an optimist, I think they're going to win again next year unless they run into a goalie that can't be stopped or CC breaks down. Outside the net (when healthy) I've thought this is the best team in the NHL since 2012

I shouldn't waste my time with such foolishness.

If you can't figure out or admit that Stan's picks are just starting to enter their formative years, I'm not wasting my time with you.

- KingB

I can figure that out. Look at my post, I said its not as impressive as the player's Tallon drafted for the Hawks. I didn't state DT didn't have advantage. I said his list is better of NHL players and it is. Its my opinion thats not changing in the future

There's no doubt that a GM is gonna get judged heavily on what is done with real high picks. That's why Barker at #3 (IIRC) was a big deal. That said, I do like picks like Shaw in the 5th round and would give extra points for that - but that's just my own thing. Not really taking sides in the debate because I don't think it really matters, but I am glad each took several of the players they did.

I always think that has to be awkward as hell. Or for the guys that never played in the playoffs to have a day with the Cup. Sort of feel bad 4 them

I have always like Doc's inerpretation of the action, when I do have the sound on, but whenever I get just ONE instance where NBC jumps quickly to their commercial and there is post whistle action I jump to the Canandian CBC HNiC feed...usually NBC is running 30 seconds or more behind the real telecast from there so I have to rewind the DVR on the sat...but they HAVE the footage I felt advertisers took form me on NBC.

Yeah, Bickell's parents, and girlfriend when it was scored were as excited and happy as we were!

- wiz1901

Doc can make the plays exciting. I might be the only one who likes edzo. I think he does a great job of explaining things. But the Canadian feeds have more interesting stories and share more info. Different angles etc... By the way wiz, what do you know about ludwig Karlsson? I just saw on twitter he is leaving college to sign with an nhl team. Nobody knows who yet. I think he just attended nashville's camp

He played in the AHL last season, I just thought that if Hawks wanted him last season they would have got him. He tried out with the Flames last season and was released too. So all of this doesn't seem like he'd be a prime candidate for the Blackhawks.

I could be wrong and Winchester has been a decent 4th liner in the past. He could serve a role here. I remember SJ used Winchester in the shootout a couple times and it drive my buddy who's a Shark's fan crazy.

Replacement for Carcillo. Toughens up the bottom end of the roster for visits to St.Louis, SJ and a few other places. Good signing for a year.

tough S O B that could play some. will be a formidable 4th line with Bollig against the rockheads of the league. probably buys time for them to give Beach 1 last year to see if he could turn it around! If I recall the kid has some decent hands to chip in a few goals now & then. as far as why he played down last year, short season, most teams were set & just rolled with what they had.

Winchester is a big dude! I'd forgotten about him...played with the hated Blues.

32 yo 6'5" 230 lb. C/LW 35th overall pick in 2000 draft.

And he's another USA born player from Madison, WI

- ArlingtonRob

JJ, another under the radar find by the Bowmans. they are good for shopping at the dime store, especially scotty! danny cleary comes to mind & a few others.
a plus this kid also could play center & take draws. hope he works out!
