first, I see a crazy rumor linking Phaneuf to the Rangers today....
and then I see this:
Howard Berger @Berger_BYTES 10m
Source tells me speculation that #Leafs have discussed a trade involving captain Dion Phaneuf is accurate. And, with more than one team. - jimbro83

I think Girardi will decline before Callahan does.
We will see if Girardi can maintain his level of play without Tort's defensive system, because it took him 3 years to get it together under Tort's. - aecliptic
I think its tough to say who will decline first they both play pretty rough games. Also as of now I believe Callahan has had more injuries than Girardi.
I think Girardi has been the Rangers most consistent dman for years except for last year maybe. |

$6.5 million this year, and then becomes a UFA. Hard to see how they pull off a trade for him without doing some major surgery on the roster, unless its for Richards (with Richards' consent).
Toronto was very interested in Richards two summers ago.
Edit: Richards for Phaneuf. Staal for Skinner. Find away to cut $1.5-2 million in cap space. |

It's so risky even to trade him though. Even if the Rangers trade him and he retires early, don't they still get screwed with the cap hit? |

But it's lessened by virtue of being able to share it with the acquiring team. Let's face it; with the way the cap is likely going to go up, do you think the Rangers will care two hoots about a couple million in dead space four or five years from now if they really believe they can make a move today to improve their chances of winning a Cup? I don't. |

the rumor I heard was Richards and Del Zotto for Phaneuf, who knows, it's so quiet, it seems like something crazy must be brewing behind the scenes |

Of course I would be open to that move, but there is always a part of me that thinks salary cap first with all moves. So I tend to question every move. |

Phaneuf plays a little like Ulf Samuelsson, he definitely wears as much equipment as Ulf did, could be a good assistant coach for him |

Maybe its why they are waiting on Stepan? Got to see what the cap is going to be like first. |

I would be fine with Phaneuf for Richards. Not interested, at all, in giving up Del Zotto for a year of Phaneuf, nor I am interested in retaining Phaneuf after next year for UFA prices.

I think there is more to the trade rumor, I saw Kadri's name too, but i really find that hard to believe |

I hope there is another significant piece coming back. DZ and Richards is too much for Phaneuf IMO. |

I think it would take at least Miller. Boyle and Pyatt are non-starters, gents. |

Trading Richards and Boyle. Kinda risky at the center ice position with Stepan and Brassard. |

Kadri is a center, so you would have Kadri, Stepan, Brassard and Moore down the middle. |

No problem. By the way, I would make that move. The thought of having Stepan, Kadri and Brassard down the middle is really persuasive.

Id try to do a mdz for kadri deal and cut out phaneuf. I really have zero interest in phaneuf. Dude is singlehandedly the reason they lost game 7 |
