Dump Pyatt and all our issues are solved. I don't get why it is even a discussion. Who hear would rather Pyatt in the lineup over Haley?
- mrhattrick27

Think lots of people think Pyatt has his best year under AV, so hope is he can replicate that. Lots of this is solved, oddly enough, if Callahan and Hagelin start year on LTIR.

Yeah, I think thats the best move. It allows Miller to start with the team as well as McIlrath to play a few NHL games to see what he's got. Brooksie reports that he doesn't think Cally and Hags will miss enough games for LTIR but I think if they are gonna miss 8 games or so, you forcibly sit them for 12 for the LTIR, then make roster adjustments for them to return.

Geez, how sweet would we be looking right now if we bought out Richards, signed Lecavalier for 4.5M per and then were able to lockup Stepan to 8 years at 5.5M AAV and still have 1M under the cap for maneuvers?

Not busting yours specifically. Just saying when ever a player gets brought up here, it's only his stats people focus on in relation to his salary. Penner, prust, etc fall in tht category where his money made in other ways

Put it this way, I was happy with pouliet and Moore, but now seeing what Penner got and the need we have for a little nastiness I'm kind of pissed it went the way it did. Now if Penner wanted no part of ny and wanted to stay west that's a different story.

- Slimtj100

I plain don't like Penner that much. Stats aside, other than size and physicality which he only utilizes sometimes, what does he bring to the table? Great, it hurts when his fat a$$ hits someone. Hell, it hurts when my fat a$$ hits someone but I'm not fast enough to catch someone to hit him hard much of the time. Penner, to me, doesn't work hard on the ice enough so chances are he isn't particularly useful in wearing the opposition out. I'm honestly not sure if I even like him more than Pyatt. Pyatt is slow but at least I don't question his work ethic. I do question Penner's.

I didn't wanna make a big deal of it but it seems to have become one I guess I've become a lightning rod here

Penner gets a bad rap I think. The guy shows up in April may or june

Me. I don't think we saw the best of Pyatt. Why is it a majority of us feel that Brad Richards, salary cap implications aside, will bounce back with a good season this year but we hate Pyatt. Pyatt has been an effective 3rd line player for both Vancouver and Phoenix but because he was up and down here in the truncated season with new teammates he suddenly is useless? Just like with other new players I don't think Pyatt found his niche here yet. He was shuffled up and down the lineup not given a chance to settle into a role. AV knows this player and will know where to slot him in and I think you will see him have a good season in a 3rd line role. And he makes peanuts relative to other veteran NHL players who can get you 15 goals in a full season.

Haley is a border line NHL guy. He brings energy and some toughness but little skill. He's a nice guy to have around in the organization because he can come up to the big club and give you 6 - 8 minutes on your 4th line plus give you some toughness. But you're not going to use him killing penalties. You're not going to put him out on the PP and he won't be able to adequately fill in on a scoring line. He is nothing but the 12th, 13th or 14th guy on your roster of forwards.

It's not about you. I don't agree with your opinion on Penner. No big deal. The board gets livelier when there is healthy, respectful debate on it so it's all good.

Edit: That's great that he shows up when he feels like it but I want guys who bust their a$$ every game, every shift. I'd be pissed seeing Penner loafing around through March while guys like Callahan, McD, Girardi, etc. are practically running head first through the boards chasing loose pucks and defending their zone.

penner is a scrub. i understand where tj is coming from about intangibles, but this dude has none. he doesn't have the heart or grit that cally, girardi, prust, dubi, hagelin, etc. have. i don't think anyone here underestimates intangibles and only looks at stats, especially when the captain of the team has the greatest intangibles in the game. but penner has none and is a bum lol.

that's why a lot of trade rumors about glencross come up. good goal scorer, heart and soul player like dubi/cally, gritty, etc.

that's the type of player we need to go after. not a big bum that only plays well in the playoffs sometimes. there's a reason he's often a healthy scratch in the regular and post season for stretches at a time.

I'd just like to reiterate how much I despise the NHL shutting down the league for 17 days for the Olympics.

Especially these Olympics in Russia. Live games will be at like 3am, everyone will know the scores when they wake up. Stupid.

I like Stralman, too; and agree on his poor shot blocking skills. That will change this year, though. I doubt we will see many players going out of their way to block a shot.

Stralman is underrated (and with Stall out, he's a top-4 d-man). The guy has offensive abilities and under a coach that may actually let him show it, then he may flourish better this year. His main weakness is that he gets beat a lot on the outside. Too many people go around him.

- mames11

I agree with you.
My original point is this. If the Rangers are that tight on the cap, I'd rather have MZA than Stralman.

hopefully Pouliot and Moore bring some grit we didn't have last year

but, there is always so much focus on our bottom two lines, this team needs the big guys on this team to be better, that will dictate the season we have more than anything else

- jimbro83

I don't know about this guy. He seems like a Christensen or a Wolski to me, all the talent in the world but can't put it all together. There is a reason he has been on 4 teams in 5 years.

What's up with all the Dominic Moore hate? Don't think the guy has missed the playoffs in his career. Solid pker with speed, who is really good on draws and will pot 8 to 10 goals, perfect 3rd/4th line center. Talking about him like he was a bad signing is pretty dumb. I honestly think it was great signing. If we can get a full year of Dorsett, a healthy Staal and Haley I think we will be okay in the "Jam" department. Could we us a lumbering oaf like Penner to stand in front of the net and skate like he has cinder block for skates, sure I guess, but I thought his name was Pyatt.
- tbreinold

I don't think anyone is doubting Moore's on ice ability, as much as his mental state to perform to that ability after his missed time due to the loss of his wife.
