Per capgeek, Brayden Schenn, Couturier, Laughton and Lauridsen are all exempt.

It very well may. And in that case, they'll have to play Meszaros to increase his value. And to show he's healthy. The only issue there, is that it's going to potentially take away icetime from a player. Perhaps Gustafsson.
- MJL

Or knowing Mez his arm falls off during the first game of the season and hes back on LTIR.

I'm not sure on the reason why you asked that, but if it's why I think you are. That's brilliant. And if it doesn't break any CBA rules that I'm not aware of. It's the prefect scenario to getting cap compliant on the last day of camp. And waiting to the first day of the Season to place Pronger on LTIR. If they can't move Meszaros.

Simply demoting those kids before day 1 will get them cap compliant in time to max Pronger's LTIR exemption. That's good news. They can keep Mez too, while bringing everybody back up before game 1.

But they really can't sign anyone between now and day 1 if they hope to go this route.

Yep, that's what I thought. It's the perfect end around. They could theoreticaly waive Meszaros also. If they were okay with possibly losing him for zero return.

Maybe that's the new word for the 2013-14 season.

"Scuffling" made it big in 2012-13. It was a break out year and you could tell what local writers read all of Meltzer's blogs by how frequently that word leeched into their stories as well.

The downside, of course, is that they eat into LTIR right away and can't bank cap-space throughout the year.

And Gags has to wait until after day 1 to sign.

As well as risking bonus overages for next year. The ideal scenario is that they trade Meszaros. And decide between Gervais and Bourdon for the 7th spot.

The only players remaining from the 2010 SCF team are Giroux, Hartnell, Timonen, and Coburn.

That's a huge roster turnover in 3 years.

He contributed more in 2010 to the Hawks winning the Cup, then he did this year.

Sooo theoretically, Mez could come out next season ready to prove something. He HAS to make it big next season or his career is in serious jeopardy.
So if we do hang onto him I won't cry. Much like our goaltenders it's do or die time and I think he knows it. (His agent does).

At least we know that there's at least one painless way of making this work that is completely independent of market conditions.

Well since they didn't make the playoffs, I guess it would be appropriate for next season.

Meh.... They keep calling him Z2. I don't understand why you need a Z2, when Z1 is 23 years of age.

I would rather hang on to Mez to see if he can rebound from injury than deal him for peanuts just to resign gagne.

So if they can keep him and not get too jammed up with the cap

I'm cool

Fair point. If Rinaldo keeps playing with the type of reckless abandon at his size, his shelf life will be that of a fruit fly.
