That was a beautiful move Fro made too....i didn't see that coming...little shoulder fake, then backhand shelf....poor Bob Cole called this goal like he lost his puppy dog.

It's strange listening to the canadian announcers vs u.s. announcers. Canadian guys had convinction that it was worthy of a penalty shot and the U.S. guys, if I recall, spent a lot of time debating.

Controversy sells here in the states. If you ever watch ESPN you'll know what I'm talking about

I'm old and Canadian and other than being a Legend in Canada Bob Cole should have been put out to pasture a few years ago. A bunch of my buddies and I get a chuckle when he calls guys the wrong name. Still have a great voice though. And I have read, not sure if it's true, that old Bob is a Blackhawk fan.
- paulr

His voice is awesome, and every now and then he'll have a call that makes me see what he was, but overall not a fan

The way the NHL calls penalties and penalty shots it confuses everyone. I know the broadcast I listened to in Canada wasn't sure it should have been called or not. With all the changes the NHL wants to implement to make the game better, more consistant calls should be at the top of the list.

Yeah, I hear ya. I try not to watch ESPN for anything OTHER than their broadcasted events and depending on the announcers, sometimes not even then will I watch.

Maybe hanging around this guy in the fall will rub off on McNeill

Cole's my FAVE OF ALL TIME...but he's hanging on too long...and he seemed to have Red Wing pom poms under his chair that whole series.

Agreed. Its pretty much Monday Night Football and golf and tennis majors for me. Wish NBC or the new Fox Sports would/will become a more watchable program

Question for the group....

Who do you think was more valuable to this team last year:

StaHlberg or Frolik?

- Ogilthorpe2

Frolik, no question about it. Both guys brought something to the team, but Frolik formed a pretty special PK duo with Kruger. Also, during the playoffs Frolik ups his game while Stalberg doesn't.

Is Teuvo Terravainen here? If not is there any chance he will battle for a job in Chicago this upcoming year??

Cole was pathetically biased that whole series -the call on that Frolic goal typified that. Never seemed to mess up Detroit players' names tho. My wife kept telling me to turn the sound off.

Out with the old, in with the new. Frolik and Stahls are gone, and good luck to them! I, for one, am hoping to get a good look at Danault and/or Pirri in the lineup for the big club this year. I have been in the crowd longing for a legit 2C for a few years, but the system seems to be getting richer at the Center ice position, not poorer. Hard to argue with success as they stop gapped 2C with Handzus this year. If that band aid holds for just a little longer, we may wind up with a home grown 2C one of these days.

I am intrigued by the idea of a gritty, playmaking center between Sharp and Hossa on the 2nd line next year. Danault? Kruger? Pirri, too, if he can measure up on his defensive responsibilities.

But Canadian announcers seem much more honest (or, at least, much more open) about criticizing players / plays / teams than US announcers.

Bolland was above average defensively and that is what may have held him back offensively. Very few players are great both defensively and offensively. I can only think of a few and Toews is one of them.

I agree with this. Not saying Pirri, in this example, needs to be Toews, but there is a baseline of defensive play that needs to be met. And, hasn't that been the knock on Pirri?

Personally, I'd love to see Kruger start the season between Sharp and Hossa. If Danault can win a spot on the Hawks out of training camp, he'd be a great one to have start on the 4th line. He can be plugged in on the wing, and slid into center when Handzus needs to be rested.
