Question for the group....

Who do you think was more valuable to this team last year:

StaHlberg or Frolik?

- Ogilthorpe2

Hah. You had to go there. Thought we settled on this yesterday

The single most important thing that separated the Hawks from the rest of the league was the penalty kill. It was that special team that bailed them out over and over again, sometimes even gaining them momentum. Frolik.
- Kentxo

Single most important aspect was the depth of the team: being able to roll 4 offensive lines in almost any game situation (4th line on ice after Bickell's goal in game 6 with a minute left in regulation); being able to roll 3 defensive pairings, the top two pairings interchangeably; being able to roll two goalies in the regular season with equal results.

Need to get back to that next year: need to have Pirri, Morin, Daneult. etc. in some combination step up to replace the four poor souls they lost, each of whom was an important contributor last year.

I think there is a reason beyond the money demands why Stalberg is no longer with the Hawks. One only needs to look at TOR letting him go to begin with, and his tude during the playoffs.

Selfish player.

- Return of the Roar

Obviously there was more than money, since he keeps talking about it to the media. He felt he was under utilized. Selfish? Maybe a bit. A lot of players have these egos and feel they are the cat's meow. He wanted his shot, and good for him for getting a better pay day.

I just wish he would shut up about being treated unfairly. There were people who made far less egregious mistakes than Stalberg (Brouwer, for one) who were stapled to 4th line duties.

Frolik, our best penalty killer by far. We had one of the best PK units in the league all season long and we had two people to thank for that, Frolik and Kruger. He won't be easy to replace

JJ - Wiz also mentioned this kid Dario Simion as one to keep an eye on - any feedback on him? He's here as a free agent tryout.

Put together!
- powerenforcer

Don't get ahead of yourself, slick. Fro also made more than any 3 of the 4 combined and lust less than all.

The Hawks were smart to sell high on the kid. Not often does a team get a 3rd and 5th round pick in the same draft for a 4th line/PK specialist.

Fun debate for a tuesday fellas. NHL.com has posted an article on this years Hall of fame deeming Chelios, S. Niedermeyer and Shannaban as locks with the fourth spot up for grabs. The top five in running for the fifth spot are J.R., Lindros, Rob Blake, Mogilny and Tkachuk. I know there are quite a few J.R. fans on here, myself included, but what do you guys think? Who should grab the last spot?

Pretty sure our best penalty killer was Toews. He was on the ice for as many goals as he gave up, on the penalty kill, while playing the third most minutes of forward. And the people to thank are the goalies

I'm pretty sure Molgilny won't win the 5th spot. I think that 5th spot could be a three horse race between Roenick, Blake and Tkachuk.

You could also add Leclair and Kariya as well. And fourth spot I meant not fifth.

No surprise that the 1st round picks are shining in a camp mostly full of free agents and lower round picks.....

Good to hear about Dannault. McNeil has generally sleptwalked and looked terrible the last two camps I saw him at so it's no surprise that he was behind PD in this one. Probably too busy looking at his watch. Last year Saad sleptwalked through camp, turned it on for maybe 5 minutes then went back to sleep. Different speeds for different people I suppose.

Is Garrett Ross mic'd up again? Last year him challenging people to fights was the most entertaining thing about camp. Wound up dancing with Chris Martin, who unfortunately wasn't the Chris Martin from Coldplay.....Ahh well. Maybe this year.

Squares with what I saw in Saskatchewan....good hands, skates well, but he's a FLOATER who avoids BODY CONTACT.

I would say JR, based on his high media profile.

Like, how did Howie Long get into the NFL Hall of Fame before Dan Hampton?

I haven't really seen enough of him to form an opinion. I know he didn't look spectacular in the scrimmage game I caught a couple of years ago at camp. He also didn't stand out in his brief time in Rockford either.
