Seriously? You just signed a 3rd liner with one good season to a 7 yr commitment, at the age of 29. It is a worse signing than Finger, and possibly, Komisarek.

Rask is a proven tender, and clearly in the 'elite' group of 7 in the league. I wish he could be the next Finn holding the torch for Calgary.

Regret the Raycroft trade a bit?

For that price, they could've had Horton

Kelly has a NTC.

I'm okay with Rask getting the discussed numbers around $7M per. That puts him at the very top of the food chain among NHL goalies, and I think he's earned it.

Given the way the numbers roll, assuming safely that Savard's $4M goes right back into LTIR again, that will leave the Bruins $2 to $2.5M in cap space. I think the only thing they need at this point is a 3rd line right wing. Brad Boyes is UFA and available.. think he'd fit into the system? (I'd say "he did before" but he last played with the Bs in PC's first year, and pre-Julien)

I'm pissed, because for now it looks like they will not be using Svedberg as a backup. He had a good season in the AHL, and Rask has never had a workload comparable to the highest paid goalies.
- GSDIV

If anything they may have to use Chad "NotOchoCinqo" Johnson as the backup to start. It is scary, but the cap did come down this season and they're going to have to deal with it. To me ideally you move Kelly's contract if you can get to him waive to NTC/NMC and go with Soderberg, prospect and someone inexpensive on the 3rd line.

i think based on his numbers in last 4 seasons and the way he performed in playoffs this year, Rask is worth the $56 million. As far as Subban, he's at least 4 years off being an NHL starter, and who knows what a goalie will be worth at that point, $7 million might just be average.

Ty, what's your reaction to KPD's rumor about Marchand?

I can't believe the Bruins would even consider this.

- TimBits

He's a tool, probably just made it up to make himself seem relevant.

The good news is that Rask will be tied up for the prime of his career. Its a lot of coin when they still have to sign Bergy to an extension, and for a guy who's only been a true #1 for a short season. He was great in the playoffs though, no denying that, but Chara's at 7mill p/y, Looch is 6 p/y, Krejki 5 p/y, Marchant 4.5 p/y, based on these numbers Bergy should be getting over 6 I would think, now rask looking at the 7 p/y range and a shrinking cap, they have to thin things out somewhere.

I'm not a Bruins fan, but is anybody pissed that they let Khudobin go? or are you guys happy with Rask and whatever on that front? I really thought Anton was good the games I watched him. He seems like he could be something special.

I agree. I just don't see the point of getting upset about Khudo, they Svedberg and Johnson now who has played in the NHL and is a more cap friendly option.

Exactly. If Rask is carrying a Rinne contract, then he should be expected to play Rinne amounts of games.

With adding Iginla and obtaining Eriksson, the Bruins will be quite strong this year.

Yes, but they did lose Jagr, Seguin, Horton and Peverley, as well as Kudobin and Ference on D.

PC has some holes to fill still, while on D, I can see youth stepping in.

3rd and 4th line holes that can filled with Smith, Fraser or a few stepping up from Providence.

I'm upset that for short money, we don't have a good backup goalie. I know Khudo wants to show he can be a number 1, but to me he's a proven commodity, seems penny wise and pound foolish. Who knows, maybe "I'm not Ocho" will be fine in that role, but if rask pulls a muscle or has another groin injury over a full season of work, how much more comfortable would you have felt about Khudo vs Johnson.

if rask goes down with a big injury Svedberg enters the equation.

i really don't get the whole back up goalie thing as a worry though.

Fountain pretty much nails it though. It would be similar to a couple years ago when Chiarelli had too go get Turco. Svedberg is a much better option in that scenario.

7 million long term for Rask
Gillis and Luongo numbers
Crawford makes 2.6 and although after beating Rask....Quick and Howard the last 3 series I doubt the Hawks can afford to pay a goalie that kind of coin.

Rask will either be over paid or he is a lot better than I think.

Congrats to the Bruins
Had we not made the final I was cheering for you over LA

8 years ?

I don't mind the coinage so much, it's about on par with the league, but 8 years I dunno man. I wish they would have kept Dobby considering what he signed for in Carolina.

Paille - Campbell - Thornton was the best 4th line in hockey all season

he was only there because of the Soupy injury
