Given the contracts most goalies have around the league, I think he is worth it. A little high but it beats the options out there at the goaltending position. - fudd1689
Most goalies are being signed to lower cap contracts and the mega contracts, for the most part, have become a problem for those teams. I'm not saying I think this contract is a mistake, but it's definitely not following the trend. |

did rask go into negotiations with a gun and a duffel bag? dont see how he gets the 8 year term plus top dollars. you'd think he'd have to compromise on one or the other. something like 8, 50 or 5, 35. to get top dollar and longest term is insane. |

Ty, what's your reaction to KPD's rumor about Marchand?
I can't believe the Bruins would even consider this. - TimBits
KPD is a twitter troll that corrects an error in grammar when they disagree with him. He thought trading Marchand, Boychuk, and a 1st was comparable to what Ottawa gave up for Bobby Ryan.
He thinks a team on the PK should get another penalty for icing the puck. |

8 years $56mil and a NTC is more than I would pay Rask. He has not earned that contract, only a Cup would have changed my mind. 5 years @ $6mil tops is what I would go to with him.
Blown 3-0 lead vs Philly in 2010, blown game 6 in 2013. Warrants more caution than the Bruins are giving to make Rask tied for highest paid goalie in the NHL and giving 8 years with an contract that cannot be traded if he sucks........Roberto. Luongo. |

They didn't re-sign Khudobin because he costed too much??? He signed for 200k more.....
Having Johnson as a backup scares me tremendously.
Also they should find away to move Kelly. If they can, you could have a young 3rd line which I think could be good for us.

This is essentially the same deal Rinne just signed.
Would have preferred to see it same as Price's 6 X 6.5M, but hard to say there isn't a precedent for it. Same ballpark.

They should have bought out Kelly, IMO. Saves 2.4mil each of the next two years, move Campbell to 3rd line center. Campbell can do Kelly's job and it would give them the opportunity to see what some of the younger players in this organization can do on the 4th line with no pressure. Probably could have resigned Khudobin or had enough money to us Svedberg's contract.
Pretty much the only real criticism of the team I have is the difficulty you get players have to show what they can so. Then again, maybe that is done on purpose. |

Seriously? You just signed a 3rd liner with one good season to a 7 yr commitment, at the age of 29. It is a worse signing than Finger, and possibly, Komisarek.
Rask is a proven tender, and clearly in the 'elite' group of 7 in the league. I wish he could be the next Finn holding the torch for Calgary.

I'm not a Bruins fan, but is anybody pissed that they let Khudobin go? or are you guys happy with Rask and whatever on that front? I really thought Anton was good the games I watched him. He seems like he could be something special. |

I'm pissed, because for now it looks like they will not be using Svedberg as a backup. He had a good season in the AHL, and Rask has never had a workload comparable to the highest paid goalies. |

it's always tricky when you get rid of those good but untested on a long term basis european goalies...never know when you just gave up the next hasek or khabibulin... |

Jon Quick wins the Cup in LA during a run where he is clearly their best player and gets the Conn Smythe, after three full seasons as their starting goaltender... rewarded with a 10-year, $5.8MM/per contract.
Rask loses in the finals and is arguably not the best player during the run (26 points for Krejci), after a single season as their #1 goaltender and gets a $7MM+/per contract? Doesn't make sense. $4.5MM - $5.5MM is about right. Anything more is overpayment. |

Too rich for my blood....tough to rate on a 1/2 regular season....can he take a full season. Nothing worse than a player being rewarded based on 1 season (1/2 at that). we don't want to get stuck with a Luongo style contract that is tough to move.....pay him $5 mill a year with incentive bonuses |

oh no i still feel pretty bad about it. the rask signing just kind of soothes the pain. kind of like how the bruins game 6 meltdown made the leafs game 7 meltdown not sting quite as much. |

Bryzgalov, DePietro, Luongo... yeah 8 years is pretty scary. I was hoping more around the 5 year mark. Thomas didn't even finish his |

That is a lot of money to pay him. For a team like Nashville that doesn't have as many top end players as Boston it is understandable.

Mike Smiths deal a few weeks back helped set this in motion.... How are you going to pay him less than Smith when he is 5x the goalie |

Ty,
I enjoyed all of your writings since the Finals and you're a nice twitter follow ,
7m per for a goalie seems crazy to me. But a lot of teams went nuts ending on July 5.
If I were Boston I would wait for someone to offer sheet Tukka and just match or wait him out at 5m per.

ok thanks
i agree that last year for Kelly was a fluke... one of the better 3rd line centers in the league IMO. Solid defensive player, 3M/yr is a good cap hit for him
assuming it is 7M.yr, that'd put the Bruins roughly 1.4M over the cap. But you guys will also place Savard on LTIR once the season starts, so technically u guys should be fine, no? - FLYERSROCK!
Pretty sure you need to be Cap Compliant at the beginning of training camp, whereas you don't get the LTIR for Savard until the end of camp. Someone will need to be moved I think. |
