THIS! muffin_man to the rescue. It's exactly how I see it too, markov and Gio gives you 10M next year, and salary cap is likely going up a few $M too. I don't think we are in a bad situation that we won't be able to sign both at 7M, but very unlikely since St-louis will match, and there is some team that will be willing to give a lot more for Piet (see flyers) than what habs could afford

Absolutely. Blues would like to sign him at 6-6.5, but will go to 7M if they have to. I think to make them really think about it, 7.5M+ should do the trick, but I think they will match too. Best wsy to get him is by trade, and i think that a legit top 6 + high prospect + 1st will make them consider. Thing is, they won't be willing to take a lot of salary do good contract has to be offered.

Yep. I actually said that couple of comments ago, habs have the assets to get him, but it will just hurt them more. I think they can compete with flyers for that, they can give more without hurting themself too much Now, doesnt mean blues would do, frankly it will be a bidding war and they will probably be able to squeeze a little more. I think that St-louis would be smart to just keep him. D-man like him don't come around often.

Interesting proposal. If I were Habs head office, I would propose Plekanec, Beaulieu, Leblanc and 1st. I think it could work. If all comes to worst, switch Beaulieu for Diaz or Leblanc for Collberg.
