I think your math is off. I looked at CapGeek and added up the contracts for the 11 guys signed in 2014-15 and it comes in just a shade over $48 million (for the record, that is for Toews, Kane, Sharp, Hossa, Saad, Bickell, Keith, Seabrook, Oduya, Rozcival and Leddy). So, that's roughly 22 million for 12 guys (assuming Kruger comes back around $2M and that is 20 for 11 guys).

Not great, but really not that bad either.

- QStache

agreed... i think he was looking at salary payroll and not cap payroll. we will be around $50M once kruger signs with 7 forwards and 5 dmen signed, leaving us 20 million for 10 guys. if crawford wants to break the bank, he will gone... we also have a lot of very tradeable contracts if need be. we are in a much better position than most everyone in the league.

CAP is going up in 14-15. Canadian TV contract is up, and it sounds like there will be a big increase in payment by the Canadian TV folks.

That's assuming the cap is flat, though. If the cap jumps back up to 70 million like many are speculating, then that doesn't look as bad. And, if the Hawks were fortunate enough to win another Cup this year, then I think you could see even more older vets willing to take a discount to try to win a Cup with this team.
- QStache

Hope we only need a long run into the playoffs next year to earn on the cheap vets, seeing Kane and Toews will be in a contract year going for broke. By then maybe the cap will be around 71.5 Oduya and Rozy needs to be replaced after Hammer gets around 5 mil. after next year. Believing he continues this years performance.

Couple questions for the crowd.

1 Any word on why Teuvo Teravainen isn't at this year's prospect camp?

2. Who's going to be the star of this year's camp?

He's won 2 cups, and all his mixing and matching has proven to work.....or am I missing something?
- SteveRain

You are missing something. He bozo-putered til the cows came home in 2010-11. They had to fight to the bitter end to secure the last playoff spot in the WC, then lost to Vancouver in the first round. In 2011-12, he did it again. They got the 6th seed and lost in round 1 to Phoenix (with a lot of help from the zebras with bad calls, no-calls on the yotes and disallowed goals, and of course a poor CC performance).

In the last regular season, Q seemed to have woken up, unplugged the bozoputer for most of the season, rolled 4 lines, and they won the President's trophy. Then, he decided he was gonna out-Babcock Babcock, dusted-off the Bozoputer, and put them in a 1-3 hole. He unplugged the Bozoputer, and the players did the rest, winning 3 straight to get to the WCF, where putting 29-19-88 together paid huge dividends. What did Q do then, going into the SCF? Why, he went back to his line juggling crap and promptly put them into an 0-2 hole, which they only got out of after he, once again, undid his "adjustments."

Seriously, I take this season and POs as DIRECT PROOF of the harm his line juggling causes the team. When he doesn't do it, they win. When he does, they lose. I mean, come on, we ALL just watched the playoffs, and facts are facts.

Reports stated that he was training with the Finnish national team (or something like that) and they wanted to limit his travel.

Facts are NOT facts...

2010-11 was a team full of crap. Go back and look at the roster. A coach can only coach what he has. Had nothing to do with his line juggling.

2011-12..he had no Toews for a LONG stretch of time, and Hossa was taken out vs Phoenix.

My god....the guy is now in the conversation of the best coaches in the game, and you act like he's Alpo. Tell me, who else do you want running this team? Who?

And by the way genius, his line juggling of putting Toews and kane back together, putting Bickell with them, moving Saad down to line 3, and putting Bolland on line 4, with Handzus on line 2....got you a championship. HE also sat a very timid and bad Nick Leddy when he was lost and being exposed on the road....

So yeah....facts ARE facts...

Not to retread on already well-worn ground, but it is fairly hard to truly understand the impetus of the lockout. I mean, yeah, I get that the owners wanted a bigger slice of the pie, but why fight so hard over a reduced cap for one year. Is that $7 MM per team difference really worth the hundreds of millions the league lost in games last year? Still blows my mind that a resolution couldn't have been had sooner.

Can't see the forest for the trees, dude. If only we had AV or Torts, hawks would have gone 16-0 throught the playoffs. Two Cups in four years. You sound insane when you drop such a gigantic turd on a coach with the best current resume of any active coach.

How about taking a flyer on Manny Malhotra?

He would come in very cheap, as did Emery two years ago, to try and prove to the rest of the league that he is still worthy of being a NHL player!

Yes, genius, then he UNDID it and they LOST two straight!!! That's my point: when he hits on a winning combination, he undoes it, just for the sake of changing things up. And BTW, how do you give QUENVILLE the CREDIT for winning in 2010 & 2013 with the deepest teams in the NHL both years, and THEN make excuses for him with they lost in 2011 & 2012??? Come on! Your "logic," like the Bozoputer, just doesn't compute. In fact, it's downright disingenuine.

I agree. I was listening to XM the other day when they were announcing all of these signings and wondering why the lockout happened and whether it was worth it (it wasn't). David Clarkson at nearly $6M per. W...T...F? Obviously, these owners can't get out of their own way.

On one hand, I'm bitter. On the other, my favorite team has it's second Stanley Cup, so it's hard to get too bent out of shape.

And I thought I was insane...

You need to take a time out. You are beyond crazy at this point.....

What about 2008-09 when he took them to Conference finals with the same team that Savard couldnt' get to the playoffs a year earlier? Same unproven talent, that was young and raw? How about that? Or does that not COMPUTE!!!!!!!!!??!!!!!!!

You didn't answer my question, how do you want over Q.....Who? Name a coach.

Just spit balling but what about:

Oduya off for picks
Brookbank off for a 7th/low end prospect for Rockford
Carbomb buried
Stanton brought up for #6/7 dman
Larose offered 1.5 or less
Grabovski 1 year deal at 3 mil
Since Gilbert was bought out in MN, maybe he would sign a cheap 1 yr deal to try to redeem himself as a top 4 dman in a #6 role in Chicago

Like this:

FORWARDS
Bryan Bickell ($4.000m) / Jonathan Toews ($6.300m) / Patrick Kane ($6.300m)
Patrick Sharp ($5.900m) / Mikhail Grabovski ($3.000m) / Marian Hossa ($5.275m)
Brandon Saad ($0.894m) / Andrew Shaw ($0.578m) / Chad Larose ($1.500m)
Marcus Kruger ($1.500m) / Michal Handzus ($1.000m) / Ben Smith ($0.563m)
Brandon Bollig ($0.575m) /

DEFENSEMEN
Brent Seabrook ($5.800m) / Duncan Keith ($5.538m)
Niklas Hjalmarsson ($3.500m) / Nick Leddy ($2.700m)
Michal Rozsival ($2.200m) / Tom Gilbert ($1.400m)
Ryan Stanton ($0.950m) /

GOALTENDERS
Corey Crawford ($2.667m)
Nikolai Khabibulin ($2.000m)
------
CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled with the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $64,139,295; BONUSES: $382,500
CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $543,205

Gives the Hawks a #2 center on a 1 year trial, provides a Frolik speedster replacement in Larose, allows Leddy a top 4 role, provides a former top 4 dman in a #6 role

Just a thought on a slow Monday

He didn't want to change it though, he said that in the post game interviews he didn't think Bickel would be able to handle top line minutes with his banged up knee so he waited a few games till it felt slightly better to Bickel.

He's a clown....

National broadcasters always call for and expect coaches to "mix it up" when teams aren't producing...the years he points out...the Hawks weren't producing....You don't stay with the same thing OVER and OVER again when it isn't working...

Wonder if True Grit is on suicide watch or bought his #25 Predator jersey yet...I'll be shocked if he isn't bought out or traded before that deal is up...

I understand that. But, he ALSO separated Kane from Toews again, after everyone but him seemed to have recognized that putting them back together was the ONLY thing that brought results back with Kane.

Toews was also injured and Kane is not really built for the playoffs so he thought separating them would rest them (and keep at least one far from Chara) while Bickel rested.
