I think the biggest part of the cup hangover is coming back the next year knowing what it takes to win, and having the drive to go through that near-torturous post season again. The physical test to win in the post season borders on absurdity.

The Hawks won 8 of 11 games against the Kings and the Bruins, following a 3 game winning streak against Detroit. That is ridiculous.

On a technical level, I'm pretty sure that they do have the pieces in place to win again but there's obviously a lot more to it than that.

I have to believe Crosby's one is a product of injuries and the salary cap. I will be surprised if he wins another one in a Pens uniform if they don't win next year. 35 million wrapped up in five players after 2013-14. They better have a decent farm if they hope to continue their success.

They're actually loaded on D prospects, but depth forwards are going to be a problem

So what are the ramifications if he goes back to school?.....does he become a FA?.....remains property of the Hawks?......anyone?
- UnnamedSource

I think he remains property of the Hawks. As to how long the Hawks have rights to him upon him finishing his four years at a NCAA program, I'm not sure of.

What's the limit on individual salaries in the CBA?
- StLBravesFan

It's in section 50.6. Player salaries cannot exceed 20% of the cap.
So, for 2013-2014, the max a player can sign for is $12,860,000

Lazerus has a followup which made sense. Hawks would retain the players rights for 30 days following the end of the NHL season after the NCAA player completes his senior season if drafted 4 years prior.

So....the Hawks can negotiate for 30 days after next season, after that he's an FA...just like Schultz.

IOW...Johns could still be a richard if he chooses to be, but I remain hopeful since he did show at prospect camp.

Still blows though...

Anyone plan on going to this? How big does Danault look on the ice (not just height and weight) but in terms of his presence?

Schultz played one year in Juniors before entering college. A club retains rights for only two years if a draftee plays in Juniors.

Unless the new CBA changes draft rights retroactively, the Hawks retain Johns' rights for six years.

Exactly what I said 2-3 pages ago. Danault will be a game changer for the Hawks if not this year, then next year for sure. He's the kind of player coaches droll over.

Yep - you are correct.

Some thought the Hawks reached for him at #26 overall. The Hawks spoke more of his character and winning attitude than his skills immediately after, they knew what they were getting!

If you want something to do at Prospects Camp, besides trying to promote every Hawk Prospect to the parent club too some, try and isolate your viewing on
a Swiss kid I thought had a good cahnce to get drafted the last two years...
