Bruins finalizing 8 year $60M deal for Rask. That will put them almost $2M over the cap... who is headed for a trade/buyout? - Sconnie
Yikes...that's a lot of money for a goalie...I'm beginning to think GMs should approach goalies the same way SMART baseball Gms approach starting pitchers.....3 years, maybe 4 years TOPS......Boston will regret that deal. |

A lot of it comes down to how much Toews and Kane take. They could really save the team by taking anything under 8 - rollpards19
They won't......in their prime, arguably took LESS last deal.
Don't see how that happens.....If Bowman can get them at 8.5 that would be a steal IMO....2 time cup winners, each with a conn smythe, franchise players, one with a selke, one with a ROY.
They have a shark as an agent....What the Hawks do with Crawford and Hammer and possibly Hossa, will shed light on where Kane and Toews will fall in at.

Indeed... Those two upcoming contracts scare the poop out of me already. Couple of guys from the "core" will be cast away to shed some room barring a crazy cap increase.. Stan's job will not be getting any easier. Big thanks to Getzlaf/Perry & their moron GM for setting this precedent.. again. |

Correct...and even Girioux's deal is a bit asinine.
Their is no comparable for Kane and Toews...that's the scary thing.
Which again, makes me wonder why you don't do a regular buy out on Olesz, and then save an amnesty for Hossa for this summer. Unless they can trade him, it's going to be dicey.

Bergeron appears to be extended to at least $6 million a year. If the Hawks are able to wrap up Toews for around 8 I will be ecstatic. |

of course it's a concern but we're talking about 3 seasons from now. who knows what the hawks cap situation will look like, where the cap will be, and what deals will have been made. it's a bit early to start worrying about that IMO... we are in a good position for the next couple seasons to compete for another cup and that's all you can ask. enjoy this one a bit! |

Hard to speculate exactly what the cap will be in 2015-16 when their new deals kick in, but Allan Walsh (player agent) tweeted something out that the projected cap then would be approaching 80M. If so, that SHOULD (fingers crossed) cover the increases 19/88 will receive, assuming they each get 9-9.5
Of course, that doesn't leave a whole lot of room for improvements elsewhere. |

If the Hawks give CC a deal like that I'll throw a fit.
Goalie tandem AAV should NOT exceed 5-6M...
Just say no to MEGA-deals for goalies! |

agreed... didn't like the 2M on khabibulin but at least its only one year deal. does anyone know how the $300k bonus works for cap purposes if he doesn't receive it? right now, it shows the full 2M against this year's cap so would we receive a 300k credit next year if it is not paid? |

Yikes!! Kelly makes 3M a year....Wow!
That's seems...uhhhh, like an overpayment perhaps.
Can someone please explain to me why there was a lockout?
Just looked at his career numbers...I guess 3M might be market value. He's been playing in the east his whole career so I wan't aware of his numbers. But 3M is pricey for a bottom 6 guy...
...kinda Bolland/Frolik pricey in that his roll is important, but that cost is tough to manage in the hard cap era. |

I really don't know what you're watching. He almost never loses a puck on the boards at 175 pounds. That's ALL hands.
I'm really not interested in what people think about Kruger today or last year. This guy has unfulfilled potential and upside. Maybe quite a bit. Hockey people—scouts, coaches, personnel people—LOVE him.
And regardless, today, he's probably a more valuable player than Damian Brunner. - John Jaeckel

Agreed.....PK saved their @ss a lot.....I was very upset that they dealt Frolik. Not just the PK, but here is a proven guy who can play top 6 minutes if needed....Disappointing they dealt him. - SteveRain
Disappointing that Rocky didn't look out for his team's on-ice best interest while the CBA negotiations were going on.
Would have been nice to have a more gradual cap reduction to get to the 50%. |

I think $8.7M over 8 years should be a good target, as that would match what Crosby will be getting during that time. |

How do they justify getting more than Crosby though is my thing? I'm probably the biggest Toews fan on the board, but I couldn't see justifying paying him more than Sid. I'm still going to hold out hope that they take less for the good of the team. I actually thought they got a great deal after the first cup, 6.3 was a lot for two guys only in their third year |

When Kelly signed that deal he was like Bolland in his prime, he got Conn Smythe talk from Bruins fans when they won. The Kelly we saw is clearly no longer that guy |

You're right Roll...I edited my post after looking up his career stats. Good player, but a pricey bottom 6 guy in the cap era. Kelly will make 3M thru 2015-16 season. |

Crosby is a better scorer, but I think Toews is arguably more valuable than Crosby because of his 2-way game... |
