There is much talk about the cap going up heavily over the next year or two.

Asking these guys to take less on a short term deal so teh cap can come back up is a reasonable tactic and StL gets first crack at resigning them anyway.

So 5M for 2 years...AP making 7 in 3 years from now and he helps the team stay together with the personnel they have and make a few runs at the cup.

Umm, vanek is better then ryan...vanek has never played with getzlaf and perry. Ryan got a top 6 young prospect, good prospect AND a first rounder... Vanek will get as much or more.
