Raymond isn't going to be the spark plug that the 3rd line needs (like Cooke/kennedy was). A line of jokinen-sutter-Raymond is just a mediocre 2nd line. We need that gritty/speedy player on the 3rd line. A guy like clutterbuck, stalberg, or nystrom is what we needed, but obviously at a lower price. |

Just to be clear, this article only pertains to the UFA market. The more likely scenario is that the Penguins go the trade route to shore up the bottom 6. - Ryan_Wilson
Man, after looking at all the lists of available physical, UFA wingers, there just isn't much available, except Morrow (but like you stated, he may want too much). Any ideas of possible trade options/teams, or is that for the next article? |

What about Brunner from Detriot?
Ive liked what ive seen from him in a couple of Detriot games that ive watched. The problem is i think we need more of a physical presence on that 3rd line. What about Penner if we could get him 1.5-2 mil/ 1 year? - Therealdeal6
No no no no penner. The guy is slower than Neal, and just lags behind the play. |

Flower has his own demons to overcome, this year is crucial to his stin in Pittsburgh. On matt cooke, shero has to trade somebody to even think about picking up an ufa and that somebody most likely is going to be matt niskanen with the additio . Of scudsy to the blue line and depres/bortuzzo getting in the top 6 rotation with engellend sitting in the 7 hole. If there is any ufa on the market right now that is a matt cooke type of player the pens could usr it would be dustin penner. He has size and strength and goes to the dirty areas to score goals. Let's be honest, your third line wre not supposed to be finesse players, theygrind down top lines, forcheck like crazy and score opportunistic goals, penner would be a perfect fit. I really dont see dustin Jeffery being a regular on the 3rd line, he hasn't done enough yet with his time in Pittsburghto justify so and if tanner glass gets put on the 3rd line ill barf. The iimportance off getting our thrid line winger as an ufa gives us depth to the offense as well in case of injury, which in Pittsburgh happens a lot. |

No, I'm too cheap. Plus most the posts there are inane and nothing but a bunch of name-calling. I like the snippets of info I can get from Depaoli. |

Oh, I ask because I do. Don't recall an errey there.
I quit paying here to justify paying there. This place became a pick on the Penguins page. Reading B. Metzer, then JT, now Ryan are the only REAL reason to be here. Anytime I stray from that always turns into people railing on just how hated the Pens and we are on this site. Except, supriseingly, a Flyer vs Pen game day thread can be fun. |

Matt niskanen alone won't bring in a 3rd line wing. Shero prob will have to deal someone else as well to bring in a player to get his 3rd line wing. The only player(s) to deal with matty ice thst can bring in 2 solid 3rd liners would be either sutter or jokinen which would makeno sense in a lot of ways but there are teams out there that are desperate enough for defense and could use matt niskanen that a deal like that can happen. Shero will do something he knows he has to fill the void on that line. |

I did enjoy looking at the Rumor Chart and comparing it to what really happened. It's not usually close. |

Agree that we need the physical presence, but Penner is not known for liking to "mix it up" despite his large size. - errey12
Yeah I agree. Thinking about it a little more theres no way Penner could play in our system. Maybe someone like Matt Halischuk or Brandon Yip. Both play the right wing and could play 3rd line minutes. |

really don't know why there is so little interest in morrow league wide... unless his asking price is sky high, you'd think that teams would be looking for that veteran leadership and grit.
penguins should be one of them... |

Exactly, especially since there seems to be a lack of suitors. |

Out of pens price range for sure - glovesave2985
meh Im no so sure. that is the problem, no one really knows what his price range is. things have been so quiet on him for some reason. if it was his price range that was scaring teams, you'd think we'd at least hear about it.
i'd take him for anything under 2 million. if you can get both him and cleary and trade niskanen and jokinen, i'd be all for it.
could see morrow looking for 3 million given what other guys have cashed in for, but I would expect that price to drop if he continues at this pace. |

Keeping with the Vancouver theme, what about a straight swap of Niskanen for Janik Hansen? |

We may have to sweeten it a bit, but the salary is right and he's a bit of a banger. Go ahead and give Shero a call! |

I think it's interesting that 3 of the 4 acquisitions by Shero have seemingly damaged their reputations in their brief stay with the Pens. Iggy's deal is heavily incentive based while Morrow and Murray's phones are silent.
As far as Morrow goes... We now know he was playing injured, but he really didn't have a good year with Dallas either. I'd pass. Hopefully Ray can flip nisky for a decent, young 3rd liner.
I like Jussi. He's so versatile. I'd like to see him stay.
Does it bother anybody else that we don't have anyone at WB that is ready to fill a slot on the 3rd or 4th line? |

Jussi is too important to the faceoff circle and potential to score on the third line that i dont see hingoing, but for the chance to bring in 2 third liners in a deal with niskanen on top of getting some cap space is something ray shero might not be able to avoid |

No thanks, Hansen is a 'heart and soul' type player who never takes a shift off. I believe he was voted Canucks "unsung hero" a few times. He can skate like a demon, is great on the forecheck, can kill penalties, and has been coming into his own in terms of offense. |

As I mentioned earlier, ain't gonna happen. Hansen is the 'Matt Cooke' of the Canucks except without the bullsh!t and with better offensive abilities. |
