Being pessimistic and whiny isn't 'facing reality'. Sorry, Joe.

I agree they have made mistakes, Bobrovsky being a huge one.

But they're not repeating the Bobrovsky mistake by trading young players for veterans now, which shows they can adapt.

Yes, they traded Carter and Richards and they won a Stanley Cup, but as second line players and not the focal points of the franchise. Without the pieces in place in LA, Carter and Richads don't win the Cup.

They didn't add players that fit their problems? The biggest personnel issue was a lack of a puck moving defenseman. Streit addresses that.

If you want to generalize and be negative about everything, best wishes, because honestly that exactly the kind of moronic stuff I tend to ignore on these boards and make fun of, being it's being a stupid child.

- Jsaquella

Streit struggles to defend, yea he can move the puck but again this struggles in its own zone. There's nothing moronic about my criticism it points out the weakness of the team and how they conceivably swung and missed again

that's very possible. jvr is really talented. and i know you'll probably respond who cares (because ultimately we're flyer fans not leaf fans) but they can say the same thing about trading schenn low for a player that's "falling out of favor."

it's going to be one of those situations that's interesting to monitor and revisit years down the road. my take: if schenn winds up being a solid contributor in our top 4 for a decade (which is certainly possible imo), jvr's gonna be hard-pressed to make me really regret it. meaning that if it's a "hair-splitting" type situation with a solid top-six forward v a solid top four d-man, i'm more than comfortable with homer having sided with d. different story if jvr turns into brendan shannahan or something

- FlyerMike18

Agreed. If he becomes a premier player in the mold of Shanahan or Neely, Schenn will have to pull a Chara (go from a hard-hitting defensive defenseman to a #1 defenseman) to help even it out. JVR seems to be more of a LeClair potential, as he doesn't have the meanness of a Shanny/Nelly guy.

No, because you've incessantly female doged about generalized 'failures' over the past two days, and absolutely evaded any inquiry about what you'd prefer they do. Zero substance, it's all sour grapes.

I'm not saying they don't make mistakes, either.

I've suggested what they should have done but apparently it's too hard a pill to swallow.

I doubt Streit is going to be relied on defensively much. They knew what they were getting with Streit when they signed him.

Exactly. You can be upset with the moves, which is fine. But it's ALL YOU DO, just female dog and female dog about how horrible every move is. And again, I've asked you twice in the past 30 minutes to please show me one UFA who moved on to a new team at what you deem to be below market value and perform well, and you haven't. Go be a (frank)ing Carolina fan or a fan of some team who rarely spends money of UFAs.

There's nothing the Flames can do to make me like any deal for Couturier. Absolutely nothing.

I believe he's said that they should have traded Giroux (I "think").

Its starting to sound like you guys are trying to run him out of the board... I don't think ganging up and "name calling" is the answer here.

Gaudrea, Baertschi, 2014 1st. I like Couturier, but that's tempting.

Want to see what penny pinching for the sake of penny pinching does? Go read Travis Yost's blog about the Senators, owner Eugene Melnyk, and Daniel Alfredsson's sudden departure. I'd like Snider to be a bit more hands off and stick to opening the purse strings, but I'll take the owner who wants to win over the owner who simply won't spend 'just because'.

I believe about two pages ago I replied to one jsaq's posts that the main thing they should have done was really nothing right now. Instead they took the declining veteran plunge yet again.

His proposal is to move on from players as they perform well because market value is overpaying. That is basically the MO of the Burke-era Maple Leafs.

It's not name calling, it's the truth. And if trading Giroux was his plan, he should've said instead of, "I already told you guys, GEE WHIZ."

Also, trading Giroux would be foolish, and giving him the money was absolutely 100% the right move. It's just my opinion, but it's 100% correct and great.

Don't worry, if a deal does go down with the Flames involving Couturier, the gaggle of apologists, and pole smokers will spend hours trying to convince you that you are wrong.

You know, all those small, slow 35-year-old dmen that inexplicably blossom defensively when they land with a team that stresses a skating/aggressive style.
- Tomahawk

Fair points, but I'd also say that sometimes being paired with the right defense partner, one with whom you develop chemistry and with a skill set that complements your own, can actually make a big difference in the play of even a small, slow 35 year-old dman.

They literally made three signings to avoid taking the team apart. By the way, the Flyers don't have to pray the cap will go up, it definitely will.

You're question is irrelevant that's why I don't answer it. Market value or not they made questionable moves again... And with this team lately the questions become the reality.

Agreed. They might not make the right moves all of the time, but they do their best to ice a team that they feel gives them a chance to win the Cup every year. As long as that pays off one time before I die, I'm okay with that. Kind of like with the 2008 Phillies...I don't care if they ever win another game because I got to see them win a World Series. That doesn't mean I don't hope the win (especially since I'm going today) but I can live with it if they never win again.
